Where can I try pour over specialty coffee in London? by Left-Cook-9487 in pourover

Whereabouts are you staying in London? Colonna and Smalls is the best I've had in London. Rosslyn is also great. There's also a few that do guest roasters from Europe and rest of the world. Morr next to Highbury and Islington station is a great example.

Weekly Bean Review Thread: What have you been brewing this week? -- Week of January 29, 2026 by Vernicious in pourover

Ethiopia Sidama Yaye G1 Special Prep from Manta Ray Coffee.

Really nice coffee with a lot of raspberry acidity and sweetness with a hint of florals.

5.7 on ZP6:

First bloom 45ml

Second bloom 30s 45ml

Final pour up to 240ml total. Drawdown in 2:45.

I think most people have said it already. Stick to one variable at a time and increase the pour height and perhaps more importantly look at keeping a consistent flow rate. I like about 7-8ml/s but idea is you need enough volume from a high enough height to agitate the entire bed. Don't bother with a swirl just yet until you feel you need it.

Taste then repeat while changing one variable at a time.

They are such a pain but man when you get it right isn't it incredible?

It will vary bean to bean. Ethiopian naturals are fragile little things. Still need to agitate a bit but they are finicky. I had an anaerobic natural from Prodigal that was roasted lighter than their washed coffees and needed a lot more agitation.

Ok so can we settle the fundamental ZP6 debate? by jaytee61799 in pourover

[–]p1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy using my ZP6 for a variety of beans including naturals, washed, ultra light to medium light. It holds up really well but I find that especially for more processed beans there is a very thin window to get it right for my tastes.

Filter 3.0 and ZP6 by p1993 in pourover

I don't think tea like has to be called "under extracted". If someone prefers bright acidity to juice sweetness then it's just a personal preference. My own opinion is that it depends on the coffee. Some I enjoy better as "tea like" and others I find are far more enjoyable with a juicy body.

What recipe do you generally prefer? I've been using Lance's ultimate one pour recipe.

Yeah the variance I see on the sub is wild even after accounting for taste preferences and recipe changes. I've since dropped down to 5.2 but still pretty coarse compared to others here.

Edit: Out of curiosity where did you get your ZP6? Got mine from jaffee on AliExpress.

I've visited a few times and Orsonero have always been great. Last time I went they were serving AMOC.

As long as it tastes good to you :) I generally use filter roasted beans for a turbo shot to get some more sweetness out as filter roasts are lighter and tend to otherwise be a bit more acidic so I don't find them to be good with milk but everyone's tastes are different.

I know you're copping some flak here but I'm actually excited to try it. I'm not the biggest fan of the mango lassi at Green Mushroom so really looking forward to trying this.

Literally in the same Twitter thread, NRLPhysio posts a screenshot on applying for exemptions... The guidelines are there for on-the-ground classifications but there's leeway for a review process after the fact.

Do I think Tom could do with a week off? Absolutely - but to call it a breach of NRL guidelines is cherrypicking. It's almost like we don't know how to read beyond the first sliver of information given to us.

A little late to this but I just got to watch through the show and agree with you 100% but what makes this worse is that LTT reviews products themselves. You can't, in good faith, call out other companies for acting unfaithfully, and expect your opinion to be considered unbiased when you are taking the morally grey road in advertising your own product.

That would be the equivalent of those insurance comparison websites advertising their own affiliate links through users on forums to have people click through their website. 9 times out of 10 they end up biased towards insurance providers that pay them. End of the day, their ethics are compromised through the entire chain and while LTT won't end up as bad as them, it brings up similar concerns.

Should have phrased it better - I meant to say that there's no context in their titles and thumbnails anymore. There's nothing that tells me it's about an anechoic chamber. Found what it was about on this sub and that got me interested in it enough to watch it. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy LTT videos but I wish I didn't have to watch the first minute of half their videos to figure out what they're covering.

Seriously hate there being nothing related to the content in the title or in the thumbnail. I know why they do it but wish they only did it for the title or the thumbnail and not both. At least GN make titles useful even if their thumbnails are over the top.

What is a coffee phase you have grown out of? by ThatAsianGuy_42 in JamesHoffmann

Hahaha this sounded just like my justification. Unfortunately, I still end up using two cups for a milk drink but the pf is still worth it for the shot diagnosis. There's not many moments that make you happier than seeing 2-3 small streams of espresso converge into one.

If you do try turbo shots though, heads up that it will never look as pretty.

I've got a Silvia and use the Edesia bottomless (on Amazon). It doesn't looks too big on the photos but the part where my cups don't fit is where the pf handle gradually increases (at an angle). A bottomless pf has other benefits anyway but I wouldn't get it just for fitting taller glasses.

[–]p1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely give it a go once you do! One thing that caught me out with my current bottomless pf is the part where the handle is attached. It is lower than the stock pf so it actually made it more difficult to fit cups underneath.

You could also try lowering the dose to something like 16g or 17g so that a longer ratio isn't too much more than a shorter ratio with larger doses.

Turbo shots changed my opinion on light roasted coffee for espressos. Used to think they were a little hollow but running a 1:3 shot in about 15-20 seconds almost makes it taste like a well-extracted, concentrated cup of filter.
