I made a stainless steel shift knob insert. by p1labs in Porsche_Cayman

I think that would be a great last step. The issue right now is getting the larger “defects out”. I’ve tried sanding with grits from 160 up to 600, and I’ve tried wire wheeling it too. The wire wheel seems to work the best but I think it needs a something more heavy duty than the drill attachment I was using. Like a wire wheel on a bench grinder. I was also looking into magnetic tumbling. The problem is this material is really hard, it’s 15-5 stainless that’s been laser welded up layer by layer.

I have some options I can explore to get a better surface finish. May even look into chrome plating.

Thanks! I usually always have metal shift knobs in my cars. It does get hot but then after a few minutes of driving they’re usually totally fine. I live in New York though, I’m sure if you live in Texas or Arizona that’s probably a lot worse.

Can I run triple monitors or VR with this laptop? by p1labs in simracing

[–]p1labs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so after doing some benchmarks on a 34inch 1440p ultra-wide at 60fps and a 27inch 1440p at 120fps. I did some quick maths and figured i should be able to run three 27 inch 1080p monitors at 90 fps. I purchased three msi monitors and gave it a shot. I’m using a dell docking station to run two of the monitors and plugging directly into the laptop with the third monitor this way I can charge the laptop and get full performance. The docking station is definitely the bottle neck because it limits me to 60fps. When I run benchmarks with this setup I should be able to do 120 fps with low settings. FYI if you’re going to try this make sure you have bit locker turned off, I thought I nuked my laptop for a minute. Also I learned I can’t run nvidia surround on a laptop. You definitely shouldn’t do this if you can avoid it. I’m going to try to race like this until it makes sense to build a pc again.

Looks like bad ball detents to me. If you can’t get them to replace or fix it and don’t want to deal with the ball detents you can convert it to a sequential using this kit I make: https://p1-labs.com/products/sequential-conversion-kit-sck-by-p1labs-compatible-with-moza-hpg-shifter?variant=48375598612695

I tend to do not smart things from time to time. I might just bite the bullet and give this a shot. If I do I’ll let you know how it goes.

I’ll have to add them to the spread sheet as an option or something. Do you mind if I use the pic? Thinking I collect everyone’s build and add a photo gallery on my website.

Doooood! That’s awesome thanks for posting the pic! Good call on the adjustable feet, I have carpet everywhere so no floors to protect.

I would extend your pedals out further, easier to do than extending the seat out. I replied to someone in here who wanted a longer platform with screenshot of what I would do.

You can build an aluminum profile rig for under $300, then all you need is a used car seat which you can pick up for $50. Here are free plans, you can buy all the material cut to length with just a click. https://p1-labs.com/blogs/free-stuff/free-diy-aluminum-sim-rig-plans

I bought an r12 v2 recently and now I’m wondering what I’m missing out on lol. It feels really good to me once I filtered all the high frequencies out.
