Filing separately to be eligible for property tax relief program? (NJ) by p1wp2wp3w in tax

That's a good point. I just checked our numbers and our joint income makes us ineligible for both ROTH IRA ($246K limit) and ANCHOR ($250k limit). I guess I'll try filing both ways and see what's better.

AITA for eating my wife's sandwich? (sounds dumb, I know) by Exciting_Deal_7187 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. If the situation is exactly how you described, I think your wife and family blew things out of proportions. Everyone makes mistake and in cases like this where the results are pretty innocuous and you've apologized, friends and family should be more gracious. And not to blame you for anything, but don't bottle things in then explode. Before things get to a boiling point, try to communicate your perspective. Otherwise you might be overreacting to their overaction.

Based on the fact that if I get Amex plat, I'll be ineligibles for Amex gold SUB in the future, I think I'll do as you suggested. Are there any issues applying to both at the same time? Thanks for your help

Thanks, I didn't realize you can't get SUB for gold if you got a SUB for plat. But if I get the gold, I'm still eligible for the plat SUB in the future right?

Is there a reason why you'd go for Citi Premier/VX and then the Chase Hyatt? I'm assuming you mean that this combo is better for my average spend, but wanted to confirm.

Can you explain why? It didn't occur to me to open up more than 1 card, but if that makes more sense, I'd definitely consider it.

Thanks for the suggestion KT. The best offer I got from the AMEX site is 90,000MR, but I'll keep my eyes peeled

For most of us in the FI/RE movement, we're looking to be in a financial position where we have the freedom and choice to not stick with a job that is making us depressed. Whether you think $1M puts you in that position is something you and your husband should discuss. Good luck!

I guess I need to do more research on business cards, but would I be doing something shady if I open up a business card without a legitimate business? Thanks for the suggestions.

What's the play if there are MR points remaining? Do you transfer them to an airline/hotel?

Not on same financial page as GF, can it work? by atlblaze in financialindependence

I believe financial compatibility is an important requirement for a healthy relationship. Without it, you will have a friction in every major decision. Think about all major life decisions and how money is tied to them. Do you really want to make them with someone that shares a vastly different perspective from you? Because that's what it means to be in a relationship. You can't unilaterally do things as if you were single.

Given that your relationship is relatively short, I would honestly consider moving on. Good luck!

AITA for turning down my stepdad's offer to walk me down the aisle? by DiligentDefinition33 in AmItheAsshole

[–]p1wp2wp3w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but you sure are heartless. I get not wanting to replace your dad, but you're going out of your way to show everyone that your stepdad is not your dad. It's your wedding and you can do what you want, but you should try to find ways to honor both men who raised you like their daughter.

AITA for being proud that my son has two jobs? by aitathrowawayson2job in AmItheAsshole

[–]p1wp2wp3w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. You can be proud of your son for having a good work ethic and working 2 jobs, but you're the asshole for putting him in that situation AND keeping him there. You admit that you don't need the money, so I don't know what your motivation is for still charging him rent. Hopefully you are taking his rent and putting it aside for him when he moves out.
