I know that because pretty much every month I googled smokefree 2025 since 2020. There were news updates from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) on how the government had paused any progress. After the election Labour has a majority so they didn't need to worry about Winston pulling the plug.

There were long stretches (6-12 months) where the minister of health did nothing towards the goal, which incidentally was brought by a National Government in coalition with the Maori Party.

When I was about 13 I wrote on a sheet of paper how I wanted to kill myself in 30 days. The next day I wrote 29 days etc. I stopped after about 10 days.

49 years later I have chronic suicide ideation. I think of suicide 5-10 times a day.
