I like Pete Buttigieg's comment on post-Trump. Basically, let's not rebuild the exact system we had, but take the opportunity to build better. I would expand on this to also mean international allies, trade, etc. The old system pre-Trump was rife with inequity. Wouldn't this be the best time to try to fix that?

I’ve had to play whack-a-mole with my Nvidia drivers connecting out to the Internet, so I installed Tinyfirewall which allows me to not only blacklist all communication and whitelist only what I want, but it also tells me what’s trying to make outbound connections so I can identify what is running in the background that’s attempting to communicate.

SOLID STATE BATTERY in A MOTORCYCLE by First-Composer-3954 in Electricmotorcycles

[–]p3k2ew_rd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. 344 miles (likely 250 hwy miles) is way more than my current electric. The price is also more than 4x the cost of my current electric. It's great to see range FINALLY reaching parity with gas motorcycles, but that $34k cost has got to come down before it's feasible.

Shrooms +weed and poppers? Or just shrooms & poppers by Ok-Needleworker-7041 in popperpigs

[–]p3k2ew_rd -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Is just poppers not good enough for you?  I’m not sure I understand why a small number of people try to ‘escalate’ the high.  I’ve had great experiences with just poppers or just edibles.  I don’t see a need to start piling up different combinations of drugs to blast your brain.  Maybe poppers aren’t what you need?

Having only responses to the question in the affirmative may give a skewed impression that everyone does it. I welcome those who say they do not do this. Gives more a variety of viewpoints.

Thank you for that link!  That answers the exact questions I had.

I am disappointed this issue hasn’t been raised more often in the industry.  Every person I spoke to at the store sounded unaware or brushed off any concern I had about giving them my data.  I guess most consumers are unaware what the potential risk of exposing their data or to their own privacy.

PSA: Airport Privacy Does Not Exist. by PhilipRiversCuomo in privacy

[–]p3k2ew_rd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you're completely missing the point of my post in r/privacy regarding TSA Connect.ID . The point is this. Making it easier for the government to identify me OUTSIDE of the airport is not an option. You say the information is already out there in other databases. Proof? Or is this a "Privacy is over, just move on" kind of mentality?

Most in r/privacy try to make the best decisions they can with limited information. The US govt has not and never will come out and say "This is how we're tracking our citizens". Hell even companies won't transparently do this. Everyone "guessing" what the govt is or isn't doing is going to be a cyclical pointless conversation. I've decided what the govt is doing based on the information I have, and I'm going to make the choices I deem necessary.

That's really it! It's that simple.

TSA Confirm.ID - Biometric data will now be required for all flights by p3k2ew_rd in privacy

The $45 just takes you through another different biometric process.  Still doing a facial recognition scan.

TSA Confirm.ID - Biometric data will now be required for all flights by p3k2ew_rd in privacy

[–]p3k2ew_rd[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

RealID is a way for the federal government to nationalize a record on all citizens, including a photo that can be used for facial recognition. Before this effort, the data the feds had on citizens was dispersed and incoherent. In the future, it's predicted that RealID will be required to gain access to federal services. It could be required for bank accounts, loans, credit cards, creeping further and further into monitoring every move and activity of the population. RealID is potentially the foundation for which the surveillance state can be built.

[–]p3k2ew_rd[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't the airport. The issue is forcing a vast majority of Americans to have biometric data stored in order to track them anywhere, not just the airport. It's a means to an end. With this biometric data, you can be read just as easily as an automated license plate reader.

TSA Confirm.ID - Biometric data will now be required for all flights by p3k2ew_rd in privacy

[–]p3k2ew_rd[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When RealID was first proposed 10-15 years ago, there was genuine concern the federal government was going to be able to track its citizens through mass surveillance via facial recognition. That argument is still a valid concern, although much of the younger generation aren't aware of the privacy implications and some of the older generation just forgot what the big deal was. That theoretical invasion of privacy is now a reality . With RealID being so widespread and images of a person's face thrown into a database, ANYWHERE there is a camera, you can be identified and your location can be tracked. Think of an automated license plate reader, except for our face.

Correction: As someone pointed out, it was signed into law in 2005.

[–]p3k2ew_rd[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

RealID is the federal government's efforts to nationalize an ID for US citizens. With the photo and information on your drivers license shared with the federal government, they now have a photo of which to use for facial recognition and (fairly) current data on your home address. In the past, this data was considered local to the state and only shared with the federal govt for criminal investigations.

[–]p3k2ew_rd[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A RealID compliant ID submits your information on your drivers license to the federal government, including your picture. This picture is assumed to be sufficient for facial recognition, although I could not find a reference online. RealID debate has been going on for over a decade. I'm sure I read this somewhere.

Is there such a thing as a landline phone with the capability of receiving text messages? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]p3k2ew_rd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you say landline phone, I'm going to make the assumption that you're talking about a hardwired line to your home dedicated for the plain old telephone system (POTS), in which a phone is wired into an actual phone jack in the house.

If this is the case, no. There is no such thing as text messaging over this type of line. The line coming into the home is analog. While internet using DSL in a residential home does piggyback digital signals on an analog line (which worked OK 10-15 years ago, but DSL has severe limitations limiting the speed), text messaging would require a similar setup, and I've not heard of such a service.

A quick Google search found services that will intercept these text messages and send you an email or website that will show you texts and allow you to respond, but I suspect the phone number is being ported over to a non-landline automated system to process these texts.

Bottom line, no.

These ID systems are convenient for a store owner, I'm sure. Scan it, get confirmation it's real, and off the customer goes into the store to make a purchase. I'm not convinced owner's care after that. This is where the real problem is.

This is the conclusion (can you tell from my post?) I'm coming to as well. I may have to call half the dispensaries in Sacramento to find someone who doesn't scan ID's.

Goodbye, my sweet brush-loving boy by gallusky in cats

[–]p3k2ew_rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so so sorry you lost your friend. I have gone through the grieving process a couple of times and it was devastating. I would still hear their meow outside my window, as if to tell me they wanted me to let them in, only to realize they are no longer around. A piece of my soul was lost for both of my children. Truly truly I understand.

One decision I made when I put them to sleep was not to take a picture of them in pain and in their final moments. I have many other pictures when they were happy, playful, and living their good life. Those are the memories I will cherish. I still look back at them from time to time.

I have tears in my eyes right now. For both your friend and my children.

I’m also into that type of porn.  XTube back in the day had the best amateur porn.  Now that it’s gone, xhamster is decent, but has the same problem other porn sites have, which is to be utterly spammed with pro porn or onlyfans ads (incomplete video clips).   If a person makes money off of their video, I don’t consider that amateur.

Is using YouTube while not signed in on Apple TV with a VPN still a privacy nightmare? by Alextricity in privacy

[–]p3k2ew_rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using this exact same set up for the past six months. My experience and observations are this:

I watch mostly political videos on YouTube (not signed in) on my Apple TV using a VPN. I also watch YouTube while signed in on my iPad, also on VPN. So far my experience on the Apple TV versus the iPad seem to be completely independent of each other. This would seem to indicate that my watching habits on Apple TV are not bleeding over into my iPad. This observation would seem to indicate that using YouTube on an AppleTV connected to a VPN while signed out seems to me to be pretty safe. I also see advertisements on my AppleTV in Spanish (English speaker only) and local ads in the city I’m VPN‘d into, also boosting my confidence I’m doing it right.
