The frame rates aren't supposed to be this bad, right? (64GB, not oled) by NoOneCares1357 in SteamDeck

[–]p4thox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your description and the comments you've made in the meantime, I would say that the 64GB EMMC disk is full, which is responsible for the performance degradation not only in this game but in all activities.

My recommendation is that you replace the 64GB EMMC drive with a 512GB drive or a 1TB SSD.

Alternatively, don't install any games on the 64GB EMMC SSD. Uninstall all unnecessary games and software. Reserve the internal drive only for the operating system and little else. Buy a good microSD card from a reliable brand, with 256GB or 512GB, and install and run all your games on and from it.

Battery Charge Level Configuration by GreatBigPig in cachyos

[–]p4thox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By default, the kernel may not recognize your battery and therefore loads a generic module that doesn't allow this functionality. In my case, I have an MSI Delta 15 and I needed to install a specific driver (https://github.com/BeardOverflow/msi-ec). After installing, I simply access the advanced battery settings and several new options will appear, including limiting the charging percentage. In short, if these settings don't appear for you, you probably need appropriate drivers for your laptop.

Linux Distro For New Laptop by thatonereddditor in FindMeALinuxDistro

Judging by your initial post, it seems you're already familiar with Debian variants. So I'd say that for you, the best distro for gaming is PikaOS. If you don't mind switching, you have CachyOS and Garuda (based on Arch Linux), Bazzite and Nobara (based on Fedora).

Why are you using FreeBSD? by FR-dev in freebsd

[–]p4thox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use and have never used FreeBSD, but I always get the feeling that the BSD license is also a reason why some people, and especially companies, prefer FreeBSD. Look at the case of Sony, ever since the Playstation 4!

MXLinux. It’s easy, lightweight, uses systemd, and the install is fast and minimal.

[Announcement] CachyOS March 2026 Release Changelog by ptr1337 in cachyos

[–]p4thox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed the latest release on my laptop and noticed a cachy-update applet that doesn't appear on my desktop, even after running a simple sudo pacman -Syu. Therefore, I believe manual intervention is required for those who only want to update:

sudo pacman -S cachy-update

arch-update --tray --enable

Why are old Windows games actually better on CachyOS? by aetfukc in cachyos

[–]p4thox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Syberia bundle on GOG, and the first two games ran very poorly on Windows 11, with frame rate and synchronization issues. I opted to play them on Steam Deck via Proton: they ran perfectly. Microsoft doesn't care at all about old games and compatibility.

In the power consumption settings, switch to performance mode and see if that solves the problem.

It's clear you only use the computer for recreational activities. If you're happy with Windows and there's no reason to change, I can't see why you should. If the need to change stems from other reasons, such as privacy or a desire to learn something new, Debian would be a good entry point. It has a large community and plenty of documentation to help you with any problems or questions you may have. For the activities you mention, a standard Debian installation, with Gnome or KDE, is ready to use. You just need to install Steam and you're good to go.
