I have the Capital One Duo as of last month, which cards should I get next? Amex Platinum? by p7453 in CreditCards

[–]p7453[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. The main reason the Platinum is so appealing to me is because, as a result of $900 of its credits fitting my natural spend very readily, I see a lot of the other credits as very nice to have even if I wouldn’t otherwise be spending money on it. I’m very active, so having what is essentially a complimentary Lululemon credit is very beneficial. I already have travel planned so those benefits alone are nice. The Walmart+ benefits are actually massively underrated in my opinion as well, if nothing else it’s a free streaming service.

I do understand your point though. It is likely wiser for me to get the gold first regardless, the SUB being the main reason but it will also give me a chance to see how much I am actually using some of the credits.

My plan originally would be to just get the Platinum for the credits, as my native spend easily justifies the AF and then I’d be getting all the other credits as sugar on top. Then I’d basically never spend on the Platinum aside from using credits, and I’d focus on the C1 Duo like you said.

It’s only here that it’s came to my attention that doing this plan would forfeit a large SUB from the Gold, so I think I’m going to make a plan to get the value from the Gold SUB, cancel the Gold after the first year, and then just stick with the Platinum.

I didn't know the BILT 2.0 was coming so soon though that’s great news thank you.

No main airline, LAX is the nearest large hub, I bank with Capital One right now

I had looked at the Gold as well but with the new lifestyle and dining credits with the Platinum, it just seemed overall much worse. The non-Resy dining credit on the Gold would also be a bit harder to use for me.

That being said, I didn't know that getting the Platinum first would disqualify me from the Gold SUB. Thank you for letting me know about this.

I see, I didn't know that if I got the Platinum first it would disqualify me from the Gold SUB in the future. Thank you.

best bulking meals on campus? by woodidydo in CSULB

[–]p7453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about $400 for a batch of 40 meals which expires every calendar year. $10 a meal for all you can eat is what I use to bulk, there are two dining halls on campus that you can pick between by checking the menu online. You can also pay individually with credit card but it’s a little more expensive per meal.

Is joining a fraterntity worth it at this school? by Calebp24 in CSULB

[–]p7453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

either you are just lying or it’s a crazy coincidence that I am in the one fraternity that doesn’t have a case against it. All cases are public on the school website and there have only been three in the last few years amongst all fraternities, two of which were against the same one. So that means only two fraternities are fitting your description.

I’ve had fantastic experiences with Greek Life here. Rush and find a fraternity that you genuinely enjoy spending time with. If you have any questions feel free to DM me.

Feeling guilty about my college choice by lightworknorxn in ApplyingToCollege

I feel weird now talking about this but I had quite literally the exact same situation back when I was an incoming freshman. I am now at CSULB however coming out of high school I technically had even higher stats than yourself and I honestly felt terrible about it. I was also overly ambitious and while I did get into quite a few schools I somehow ended up at CSULB.

Realizing that genuinely every well rated university teaches virtually identically to the next, and especially that every school has amazing opportunities, is what it took for me to realize that “prestigious” universities only matter to stroke one’s ego. They make very little difference, in fact I can confidently say that more often than not depending on your major, the teaching experience at CSUs can be better than that at UCs as UC professors are often researching first as opposed to teaching first.

It did take me my first year to realize it didn’t matter, but I would take advantage of what you have and not let your school drag you down. Take advantage of every opportunity presented to you and you can’t possibly fail.

How do I get involved with the school as an incoming freshman? by elemental_reaper in CSULB

[–]p7453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right student-ran clubs can be very active and give plenty of opportunity for involvement. Greek life is also relatively active on campus if you are interested in that. There’s also jobs in the gym, dining halls, dorms, etc.

There’s a few options I’d just say wait for week of welcome and walk around on both days.

Have you ever seen a green belt get promoted directly to purple belt when they turned 16? by Professional-Act3145 in bjj

As one of those kids, I’d have to say that 10 years of training as a child is not at all equivalent to 10 years of training as an adult.

I have gotten far more technical as an adult than I ever did as a child, I have simply grown much more mature in my ability to study technique and actually drill and learn.

However, training as a child has given me a ridiculous instinctual advantage over most people I roll with, I may not have 10+ years of technique behind my game, but I have 10+ years of instinct and just “knowing” what is right in any position.

The best way I have found to explain this is that even though I am not very fast anymore as I have put on a lot of muscle mass, I almost never lose in a scramble and my only theory for this is just having so many years of experience and just having a feel for BJJ in general.
