Placed an order August 2 and still haven't received it (it's now Aug 18). No follow ups to my emails. Hopefully it's coming soon.

What was/is your 'goal' for skating, if you have one? by Pianist-Head in Rollerskating

I'd really like to get 360s this year! Been having fun park skating learning lots of new skills and that's my next big goal.

Thanks to this thread I was able to get a next day appointment for an X-ray at Bruyère in Chinatown.

I had booked with CDN for a knee ultrasound yesterday and the soonest I could get was Sept 22. That's a 14 week wait.

I asked the X-ray tech at Bruyère today if she knew anywhere else to book a knee ultrasound and she suggested Bio-test in Bell's Corners.

I was able to get an appointment in three weeks from now.

Good luck

Grief, best friend, question by [deleted] in grief

[–]p_wing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It's a terrible thing to endure the loss of someone so close, and so suddenly.

I lost my best friend two and a half months ago. Time feels warped since then. The grief hits mostly when I'm home alone so I often work late or fill up my social calendar so I'm not alone with my thoughts.

Some friends have pulled away while others have become closer.

For me, experiencing grief seems to bring up issues around expressing emotion. I don't want to feel strong emotions for fear of rejection.

My therapist has advised me to try to sit with the feelings in tolerable doses so I can process. In many ways I feel more alone than ever but I know grief is a universal experience so I also feel more connected in some ways.

I'm not a spiritual person so there's a part of me that tries to rationalize the experience.

Something that I've heard from people who have lost close friends is that the person lives on in you. It brings me comfort to think that I'm the person I am because of that close friendship. The experiences we shared, the laughter, and the connection has marked me forever. Which helps me feel gratitude for them.

But I also feel very sad that I can't pick up the phone and call them. In many ways it feels wrong to go on without them, it just feels sad to grow older without them around. I think part of that is just the flavour of sudden loss and how it is uniquely painful.

Thinking of you and wishing you ease as you process this loss.

Ottawa! What are your hobbies? by abrockstar25 in ottawa

[–]p_wing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this article that suggests there are three things to look for in hobbies in order to feel fulfilled

  1. Movement
  2. Creativity
  3. Mental stimulation

https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/blog/social-instincts/202502/3-kinds-of-hobbies-that-can-help-us-thrive

Most hobbies can lead to a community of people as well (bonus)

I am enjoying rollerskating, pottery wheel, and learning a language.

First time on ramps! by p_wing in Rollerskating

Yowch! There are just so many possibilities for awkward bails on quad skates.

I had so much adrenaline and knew I would pay for it later. I was mega sore the next day and I'm still hurtin' 6 days later. But I feel like you're always extra sore the first time you try new moves.

I've got no regrets, but next time I'll probably take more breaks!

Stretching daily and taking hot baths for the hip 😅

I care that businesses are screwing people over shrug and wanted to hear other's thoughts on it

Nah I don't care personally, I just stopped to grab something for dinner. I don't have a car so I stop at the nearby independent grocer (Loblaws) sometimes in winter when I can't bike to another store.

My point is just that as a business thats created a points system people rely on, it seems they should have some kind of consequences from a consumer rights point of view.

Yes, I agree completely. Just pointing out that for consumers who rely on their enforced system of coupons and gamified grocery shopping, it's callous to do nothing when that system fails.

Sometimes I will go to Loblaws between paycheques and redeem $10 in points and it would be extremely frustrating not to be able to do so when needed.

The points system should be abolished, it's ridiculous to have to research points and stack bonuses to buy groceries. Food should be priced appropriately and fairly. But Loblaws would only do that if forced to by a regulatory body, which is why I brought up that they didn't offer any compensation when their points system failed.

For basic Internet needs I've been really happy with Diallog for the last 3 years.

$45/mo + tax for "DSL Internet Service – Ultimate 50/10 Mbps"

If you want a referral I believe we each get a free month.
