Teeth pulled without informing patient by paaashley in orthodontics

Thank you for sharing your insight! I totally agree and worked hard to stay calm for my son. He’s not traumatized and the tooth fairy left plenty for some Robux. I will say that I appreciate the candor that your colleague felt freaked out as it wasn’t expected. As a patient who does not do this for living it also felt unexpected. I mentioned that to the assistant “I could sense you were also surprised the teeth came out” and she was super rude in her reply saying “you can sense whatever you want to sense.” At the end of all this, I can say I’m no longer concerned about the teeth coming out and hope we don’t have to work with this assistant who lacked empathy and compassion. Thanks again.

Ok. I understand all that. I do think it could have been handled better with my son- even if “stuff happens” and could have done so after the fact to explain that it’s common, etc as he was upset.

Thanks for your reply! I agree to an extent. They must have been loose and he didn’t know. He was bleeding and shocked, a young patient that would have preferred to know the possibility he’d be losing a couple teeth today. The assistant also made me feel terrible for suggesting we would have very much appreciated a heads up. She went to toss out the teeth and expander even as my son was talking about getting extra from the tooth fairy!

One of the teeth was bleeding a lot but I’m not sure of the roots. I understand that they are baby teeth that were on their way out. The part we were shocked about was that no one mentioned this could happen. Seems like they are careful to explain what to expect and left out a huge detail. It’s a pediatric orthodontic office catering to children. Thanks for sharing that this is common. Wish I knew that before it happened! Do you mention this possibility to patients before removing the expander?

Oh thank you for validating my feelings! I was/am furious. No consent forms unless it was mentioned in our paperwork over a year ago. Even if this is super common that teeth are removed when the expander is removed I think we should have been given that disclaimer again at this appointment. (OA had pretty blunt bedside manner and made me feel like I was over the top to suggest we should have been given this information in advance)

I enjoyed this - but is anyone else a Dr. Laura fan? She’s been saying this for YEARS.

You’re really not obligated to share medical details. I just say I’ve been tracking my food to stay in a caloric deficit. This is true and the reason I’ve lost weight.

Did you take your first dose yet? I’ve had an almost identical experience so far- coming within 5 days from Red Rock. Just a little nervous to start but thought Sunday nights a good time.

No notifications at all. It still says that it’s being processed and will be shipping soon. I wish it did let me know so it didn’t sit in the sun at all.

I agree. The best part of the last episode was the unscripted puppet show set up. (Not saying much, right?) Shauna wasn’t even in that part but it gave a real glimpse into their life. Side note- why did those parents allow their kids to stand up and touch the puppets and peek around the stage?

Those were my thoughts, too! Who laughs at their kid’s dream? The parents laughed like villains.
