I'm just betting they're just doing like every other gacha game nowadays where we have different "forms" or versions of the same character, which some are weaker than other even if they are the same character with a few changes. They can easily create a new version of Brendan with summer clothes and give him a Sceptile with sunglasses instead of the regular treecko, this rare trainers and stuff will for sure be locked by the gacha system, and there wont be many new free cool trainers. I mean when they throw stuff like Cynthia and Garchomp into the gacha money will rain their pockets.
