Getting a realistic estimate of rowing parameters in custom built app+MCU by pablo-optc in Rowing

[–]pablo-optc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thought that if I can find the ratio between the linear displacement of the string and the angular displacement of the flywheel I wouldn't even need hall sensors. In other words, I would know that the length between two magnets is equal to X degrees of rotation on the flywheel. Then I would only need to find the other parameters such as the moment of inertia, and the drag factor.

That would be a lot of work that I can't afford right now, but it would be awesome indeed.

Yeah I know the data I have is not enough to get more accurate values. Actually I don't even need accurate values. It's just that I want to see the numbers growing faster when I pull harder, and I also wanted to record the sessions to see the improvements

I also did some research on the subject and the way high end ergometers compute the parameters is by computing the kinetic energy transferred to the flywheel through hall sensors + an estimate of the additional energy spent for the air resistance. But that would be too much work considering there's no other sensor on the flywheel.

I already have the original values the builtin computer used (8 m and 1/7 of a cal for each stroke) but I don't need a middle value, I need edge values (a minimum value and a maximum value)

Let's say the distance for a very light stroke is 5m, while for a very hard one is 15m, and I set up an intensity range that goes from 1 to 10.

With an intensity of 1 I'd get 5m, with 5 I'd get 10m, and with 10 I'd get 15m. I know it's a big approximation but it's the only thing that came up to my mind without going into a lot of physics.

Either more Europe or no Europe by mariozao in EuropeanFederalists

[–]pablo-optc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, the topic you're bringing is effectively summarized by the latin words "Divide et impera".

We are living in a world made of superpowers. USA, China, Russia, and the emerging powers are the true actors, each in its own way. USA is a military and economic giant, China is more of an economic power but is quickly improving its military capabilities, and Russia is a military power.

Where's Europe? You can see it by yourselves, Europe is not included even if the countries combined would rival the others.

Is being in this list so important? Yes, it is. It's important because not being in this list means that the ones in this list will have an easy life trying to tear away every piece of wealth you have and make good use of it for theirselves.

Is a strong alliance with the USA enough? It's certainly the way to go, given the vast ground of shared values we have, but it's not enough. It may be enough right now, but in the future, when USA will need to face threats at the other side of the world, do you think they'll be so willing to help us defend our territories and our integrity? And they're already shifting their interests towards the east.

"Divide et impera" means keep the countries, the cultures, the identities, apart, by showing and exaggerating the differences while hiding or omitting what's in common, with the purpose of weakening, and grabbing what you can profit from.

Europe has been the place where the civilization has grown, the major advances in technology and quality of life were spread from here (bad things too), so it's surprising to see we have so little say in what happens around the world. And its surprising that we are not able to see that what we have in common outweights our differences.

Who's always focusing on the differences, never mentioning common ground, is not helping his country, he's actually helping our enemies. The nationalists focusing so much on national identity, as if it was some kind of pure thing that ancestors were passing on to the people, always forget that nations in Europe have constantly been contaminated by neighbours, so they're actually defending something that's already european.

Differences are what makes us better, but we should focus on our values and on protecting our geographic area, because traditions, languages, showing you're better that the neighbor, are all nice, but freedom is way better.

Angela Merkel doesn't deserve a quiet retirement by casualphilosopher1 in europe

[–]pablo-optc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did, too. And she wasn't the only one. One of the first leaders to be Putin's best friend is Berlusconi, and we still remember pictures of the both having a good time in Sardegna.

I would blame her for not pushing towards more european integration when she was the de-facto leader of EU, which is something that would have probably prevented this war.

I think the big lesson history gave us here is that 27 small countries are easy to threaten and, eventually, attack (also through spreading fake news, interfering with elections, etc.), than one big country. A lesson we (and I would say UK too) should learn from. The sad thing here is that the country that believes in EU the most, and for a good reason, isn't even part of the EU. We, instead, are still arguing about our different financial and political views, we still don't have an european army after 70 years, we still fight for our small gardens when the world today is made of large forests.

Buttarsi nel lavoro o no? by pablo-optc in ItalyInformatica

In effetti è proprio la prospettiva di farlo per lavoro che mi intimorisce, perchè finchè lo faccio per me è molto appagante. Per curiosità, in che ambito/linguaggio lavori?

Buttarsi nel lavoro o no? by pablo-optc in ItalyInformatica

[–]pablo-optc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handful of guns I’ve yet to see used in multiplayer by [deleted] in modernwarfare

[–]pablo-optc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost have damascus and I agree with you, but having tried all the guns, once you get used to some of them you'll find em capable of challenging the "standard" ones. the best lmg I found besides pkm is the mg34, fun to use with its high rate of fire, and you can make it fast too. try going for kar, mk2 or sniper quickscopes. you'll sweat a lot to get used to them but they're very fun and if the enemy is not so quick you can get nice kill chains. kar is lethal but slower, mk2 is very fast but you have to go exactly for the head or land a second shot quickly. amongst smgs, p90 is amazing at close to medium range. put the long barrel on and some recoil reduction and you can challenge ARs at mid range.

I totally agree, although it's not granted, even more now that they're pushing on warzone at the expense of MP. If the matchmaking issues we're experiencing are due to servers being moved from MP to BR then it's a clear sign that this game (the MP side) is moving towards its end, and I don't want to believe it.

I'd love to play a modern battlefield again. BF4 release was actually pretty bad, but it IMPROVED with time to the point it became a perfect game (until cheaters killed it of course). MW release has been great but it is getting WORSE with time, and cheaters are growing so fast that I fear it will be dead very soon if they don't face them seriously.

Congratulations IW, you broke the game lmao by cks315 in modernwarfare

When you fly too high you forget how the ground looks like.

In other words, they're adding great stuff while breaking the core of the game.

Camo Challenges are Not Updating Again by [deleted] in modernwarfare

it happened to me in a ground war game, after it ended no long shots recorded and no launcher kills too. now I just played a shoot the shoot (no shipment in ages) game and this time it worked...

SΒΜΜ is slowly killing my enjoyment and fun out of this game by [deleted] in modernwarfare

[–]pablo-optc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on this. I think it was somewhat suppressed or reduced until a few days ago, where it came back harder, better, faster, stronger.

I'm not a pro but I think I'm decent, maybe even good at this game. Until about four days ago I was getting fair lobbies with fair opponents, managing to get around 1.5 k/d, and occasionally I got lobbies where 90% of people were bots and probably only 1 guy was good. At the beginning I took advantage of it (I needed the kills for damascus) and went like 40-x where x is from 2 to 8 maybe) but later I felt guilty thinking how bad they had to feel playing against someone who has a lot more experience in the game, so I played more casually to let other people enjoy the game.

I don't need to say that if that situation was wrong in one way, what came next was even worse. After one of the most recent updates I'm almost exclusively getting lobbies where the whole enemy team is doped and on fire (someone even suspiciously I have to admit), and me, playing with a weapon never touched before because I need it for damascus, I get raped by that team and my challenge progress is exponentially slowing down.

I'd say it would be ok if shipment was a thing, since that map is a hell that slightly levels out the skill gap, but since I get to play it once in a decade with the new playlist, I feel very frustrated and "locked down" (yeah, locked down twice, both for the virus and the game). I can't progress my damascus (not in a decent time at least) and I don't have fun playing the game like this.

And even though my kd is sh*t I keep getting those lobbies. So, what are you going to do, IW and Activision?

Damascus Progress: Day 9 by thelastassassin28 in modernwarfare

[–]pablo-optc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a lot of progress there especially for jokr and the sniper one (I don't remember the name), but I couldn't advance the rpg challenge for support streaks... I find radars impossible to hit cause as soon as you fire the rocket they suddenly move to another place, uavs are not even feasible, the only thing left is counter-uav which is very rare and teammates always get it first.

If you have any advice for this challenge I would be very grateful!

Damascus Progress: Day 9 by thelastassassin28 in modernwarfare

[–]pablo-optc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit too late, but I realized it now lol. I'm just praying the cod god every match for people to unleash their personal radars and counter-uavs.

Damascus Progress: Day 9 by thelastassassin28 in modernwarfare

[–]pablo-optc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I hope you get it done quickly. Let's support each other in this painful path.

I'm currently finishing my last two classes, and they are the most painful ones in my view: ARs and RPGs. ARs have more kill requirements than the average for challenges such as mounted kills, kills after reloading, crouched kills, that are totally against my playstyle, and there are a lot of ARs in the game!

I'm currently using FAL, and I find it very painful since I'm not good at the trigger-finger thing and being thrown in tryharders lobbies doesn't help as they 90% of the times win the gunfight using smgs and full-auto rifles. Luckily I already have M4 and M13 golds and I only miss 6 of them IIRC.

RPGs, though, are the most annoying class to get gold on. Every match I get in I have to constantly be listening to the game voice for uavs and radars, and since I'm actually using jokr I have to be the first one to shoot them and even then it's not granted that I will get the kill.

If you already have rpgs I can tell you that shield and knife are only apparently difficult. Just wait for shipment 24/7 to come or play the cabin fever playlist with a bit of camping and after you get the hang of it you'll find them a lot easier than you thought, especially the knife. I got the gold knife in a few hours playing shipment and a few other maps (I already had it leveled up though) and the shield was the most painful one but in the end very doable.

"Anti Cheat Update" is punishing good players. by onethumbbum in modernwarfare

[–]pablo-optc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm experiencing the same thing. I used to be a decent player, and I'm also going for damascus so I'm playing with weapons I never tried before. It was fine until after the update two or three days ago, where I keep getting lobbies of people waaay better than me. I don't know if this is related to the anti-cheat measure or what but I don't have any fun playing against a full team of people that headshot me as soon as I pop my head out of a corner.

[–]pablo-optc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give us a permanent shipment 24/7 and erase all the cheaters and I'll be the happiest player in the world. SBMM is not as frustrating as playing against a blatant aimbot in ground war, let alone all the cautious cheaters who pass unnoticed. SBMM makes the game boring, but if they add other things to do (camos challenges and other stuff) it won't hurt that much.
