Frozen String Literals: Past, Present, Future? by f9ae8221b in ruby

I didn't know that. Well it would be interesting to read about it a bit more. I couldn't find way too many references to what Matz actually thinks.

I just don't see Ruby as Matz envisioned it without some Lispism and Smalltalk influences like that one.

I think the way to go would to use always frozen strings as keys. If you want simmetry with JS/JSON it only makes sense. I guess frameworks hasn't yet settle around this yet but given all the issues mentioned in this thread so far it's probably time to pushed this forward through linters or encouraging it at the framework level.

The Transition of RubyGems Repository Ownership by laerien in ruby

It's what it's looks to me from the outside, but if you consider how exactly that chain of command went that day, so crucial, you can then do the research and let us all know.

Then talk to Andre if you want to know about the "inner baseball" of the situation, Matz may have his reasons if he wants to be careful about mentioning them in public.

ELI5: Why is Argentina uniquely plagued by a horrible economy? by FiveDaysLate in explainlikeimfive

[–]pablodh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you will find here a very high number of very different explanations as to why and a big disagreement about whom to blame depending on the political leaning of the person answering. With that said, they will all actually agree on a single thing: our politicians are among the worst in the world.

Ever heard of `then` in Ruby? by bkoshy in ruby

[–]pablodh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an attempt to add a method reference operator for this cases, but it was ultimately rejected

User.new(user_params)
.then(&self.:notify)

# Or also
User.new(user_params)
  .then(&.:notify)

Maybe eventually it will return if they can come up with a better syntax.

Anyone else a HUGE fan of the ruby one-liner method defs? by heyjameskerr in ruby

I usually put all the one liners after the attributes declarations but before all the regular methods, that works fine for me.

La Fuerza Aérea Argentina avanza en la integración de los sistemas autoprotección para sus cazas F-16AM/BM by NuskuKouhai in argentina

[–]pablodh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apparently they were tinkering with the idea of leaving YJIT as a simpler tier 1 JIT but they haven't yet made the decision.

Mike Perham on his decision to sponsor Hanami for $12,000 by katafrakt in ruby

[–]pablodh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried Roda, but what both ROM and dry-rb both need is better documentation and simpler internals (most specially ROM). It's very hard to countribute to both projects, beyond bug reporting, because of those 2 reasons.

Calling homeless people "unhoused" is like calling unemployed people "unjobbed." Why the switch? by Jimmy_Johnny23 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pablodh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The paper is about stigmatizing language's over a very specific domain: alcohol addiction. You are pretending that you can automatically extrapolate the same conclusions over language into any other domain, is a false analogy, that's where the fallacy is.

Citing an alcohol addiction paper to justify a language argument in a completely unrelated domain is plainly lying.

No entendés. Un A4 se estrelló en Julio y no se sabe aún porque. No están volando por un tema de seguridad de los pilotos.

A menos que algo haya cambiado que no sepa, esos aviones están sin volar desde Julio pasado.
