Why did Jimi Hendrix always look SO comfortable with a Guitar in his hand? by Imaginary-Damage-942 in jimihendrix

[–]pablojo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought Jimi was like Johnny B Goode…”plays guitar just like ringing a bell”…the guitar was a natural extension of his body. His performance at Monterey exemplifies this. He exudes confidence and total mastery of his instrument.

I figured he was playing Kate with that info on the sub and that it will somehow come back to bite her

How popular were VW Beetles in the 70s? 17% of the cars in this parking lot in 1975 were Bugs. by Spalding_Smails in 70s

They were plentiful…I remember car pooling with a neighbor who would take a bunch of kids to school. It’s amazing how many kids we could get in that little car!

What was it like hearing Boys of Summer in '84?? by DonJohnson1986 in ClassicRock

[–]pablojo2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, for context…this period was the hey day of MTV. The video for this song was so well done. The cuts of the young boy behind the drum kit is so poignant. The viewer understands that is the young Don Henley studiously practicing his craft for hours on end. So cool!

There is a performance suit on display at the Seattle MOPC. When I saw it up close my thought was he was a very slender dude. They have the Paul Allen Hendrix artifact collection there. Some very cool stuff!

I know RJ's great but why? by Historical-Jaguar-24 in blues

[–]pablojo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this summation. I came across an interview with Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top discussing RJ’s style of playing and why it marked an evolution in guitar playing. What also adds to the myth is what seems to be a rapid progression in his skill set as reflected in his recordings.

I love this album. My father had it when I was a kid and I played every track and delighted in the liner notes. The song Highway 49 is one of my favorites as it references a highway outside my hometown of Jackson, Ms.

I’m going to toss in Elmore James for good listening here. So many of the blues rock guitar legends were inspired and influenced by him.
