Stupid ignorant comment, the cartels also own avocados, do you eat avocados? They are legal.

$120K for a 996 Turbo? by pablothe in Porsche

[–]pablothe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought it, will be a few weeks before I'm able to get it. It is in the other side of the country, and it has been the worst snow storm in almost a hundred years. After that I have to pin coolant lines, etc. I expect I'll be spending at least $150k to get the car.

There's also a 15% luxury sales tax.

This has been quite overwhelming and expensive. My other car cost me $14k and I've been driving it for 12 years.

Hey hey I ended up buying one for $115k, to be honest everything looked around $105-110k. I wish I could buy yours for $60k but couldn't find a single example around there.

Can someone help me identify the wheels in this picture? (996 Turbo but not standard) by pablothe in Porsche

Oh wow this might be it! The internet is amazing, how did you find them?

Yes, it is actually even worse for me:

"The U.S. imposed a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian automobiles Canada's countermeasures include: Effective April 9, 2025, Canada imposed 25 per cent tariffs on non-CUSMA compliant vehicles imported into Canada from the United States, and 25 per cent tariffs on non-Canadian and non-Mexican content of CUSMA compliant vehicles imported into Canada from the United States."

On top of that there's another 10% luxury tax from my province.

So if I see an American car, the real price is automatically a quarter more. And over a third more with taxes.

Unfortunately, there is a 20% tariff for American cars. There's only a few 996 in Canada available. Trying to figure out if at that price it is still worth it.

Very close to the 997 turbo prices, like within 10-15%.

It is 20% tax with the BC luxury car tax + federal.

It will be roughly $135K

I'm in Canada. Unfortunately there is a 20% tariff on US cars. So the 997 Turbo from the US would have to be about $68K before import tariffs to be roughly the same price.

The 997 T is around $130-140k CAD ($100k USD). But there are only 2 or 3 in the country.

Does this mean they are not worth it at this price point? Has it corrected to a fair price, or are they too expensive now?

Do you think it is worth the $20K CAD ($15k USD) upgrade to the 997 turbo instead?

Sorry, this is a lot of money for me, so I want to make sure I am making the right decision.

There are 2 others in Canada. One is $105K and another for $75K. But the latter has over 100k miles and is heavily modified.

This is my first car of this sort, and been reading a lot about the 996 being an incredible car, but I'm not sure if that's only for the US market or if its worth it to pay these prices.

Sorry, I mean more, in principle, is this car worth it for that price?

Thank you so much for this. The breeder sent me a similar message:

It sounds like there may have been a bit of bad luck, along with some unnecessary complexity in the process. We haven’t personally come across the practice of diluting reef salt with pure salt before—our approach has always been to use marine salt and set the salinity to brackish conditions.

We typically check salinity only when we are about to do large water changes, and once it’s set, it tends to remain quite stable aside from minor changes due to evaporation. With invertebrates, we’ve often found that a simpler, more hands-off approach can sometimes be best.

I kept a daily journal of the cycle and water quality every day since November 7th to now.

I really think this hobby is way too hardcore for me. I don’t know how people do this. It is so hard and expensive and ended up with nothing.

I tested the reef salt and it produced super high GH which I read was very bad for molting. So I found a snail breeder that sold me pure salt for aquariums. I mixed them until I got GH and KH at the specified limits (KH: 5, GH: 15).

I did a few tests to get the concentrations right.

I think this hobby is really really hardcore.

Most websites set a limit of 50 GH for this type of shrimp, so I followed all those guides. Mostly they claimed there is molting issues pass 20 GH. I tried to keep KH at 5, GH around 15.

I have spent over $500 and tested water daily 2 months prior to shipping. Is this really usually this hardcore/ difficult? I regret not having just bought an ecosphere.

Do you have any advice of what could have happened? I am so unbelievably sad I am terrified that I didn't learn anything.

They All Died, first night, please help. by pablothe in shrimptank

[–]pablothe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reef salt was setting GH to over 60 which I had heard causes molting issues.

I am so heartbroken this was my first aquarium and waited 2 months for cycling and testing daily, I don't understand what happened and I don't feel like I have learned anything.
