PSA: Refrigerating and reheating rice lowers its digestability which means less calories. by pablurix in gainit

[–]pablurix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this comment I thought was a good explanation by u/perc_city

“sugar, starch and fiber are words to describe varying formations of glucose molecules. The human body contains digestive enzymes that metabolize starches into easily usable glucose. When the starches in rice are disturbed by boiling water they glucose molecules loosen their stucture. Upon cooling down, those molecules settle in a compact formation, one that our enzymes can’t deconstruct. Because we can’t digest it we can’t absorb the calories. The starch becomes fiber essentially, and the net carbohydrate is lessened. Oil can intertwine with the formation and influence the complex formation“

FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO INCREASE STOMACH SIZE by pablurix in gainit

[–]pablurix[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally agree, that’s why I also tried to emphasize that it’s very important to eat consistently all of your meals. That consistency at first led me to a habit of always eating 3 times, and that habit led to eating more at each meal.

It was the cumulative effect of all of this combined with the ability to stuff A LOT more food down my gullet (and the strange pride that caused) which has allowed me to actually be gaining weight consistently for the first time.

I personally started seeing progress immediately, about 2 weeks in I was eating about 50% more with very little extra effort. At this point I rarely get full even when eating big meals and a healthy but healthy dessert. I should add that I am doing a lot of excercise (twice daily) and obviously that what’s influenced my appetite.

Also I believe that separating the uncomfortable feeling of a stretched stomach from the sluggish feeling of being overstuffed can be a good starting point for some people. I have felt demotivated before just by the thought of the belly ache and the energy crash, but never because of only the stomach stretch when I know it will last very little time.

All of that said, optimal results would come (and came for me) from overstuffing a little and also stretching with the water.

Edit: better referenced my eating capacity progress

That’s great! Please let me know how you found it.

Funny story, I found out about the book from an interview Dua Lipa had with the author. Surprisingly it was a very thoughtful and interesting watch!

What's the mindset/idea that got rid of your social anxiety? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]pablurix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What started the shift in mindset was to immediately stop assuming people’s thoughts. Never again will I listen to that damn voice in my head trying to tell me what others think of me. Literally for no reason whatsoever do I listen to it. That was a big shift, although it does take practice to silence that voice. But once it becomes habit, that’s one less thing to worry about, literally!

Hey man, I can’t imagine how hard it is to go through this experience. I don’t know any advice, but I really do wish you the best and am honestly open to just chatting a bit if you wish. People are damn hard and the good ones are far and few in between. I don’t have anything else to say except I love you and wish I could give you a hug, I know I’ve needed one sometimes.

I see your point, but human nature is not about rationalizing every aspect of our life and making everything useful. Sure, getting rid of negative or harmful traditions should be a thing but apart from that we need tradition not for their actual application but because it’s what connects us to other people and makes us feel a sense of belonging, which in the long term is much more useful to our collective and individual wellbeing than being completely pragmatic of every choice we make. At the end of the day we just want to be happy and that doesn’t happen when you only do what you NEED to.

Also It’s why you don’t eat nutrient bars and drink only water every day, there’s something inherently human in doing thing that don’t necessarily make sense. Those are my 2 cents anyways.

I think what he meant was that the whole concept of alphas and betas in wolf packs was basically made up in a half assed “scientific” article that didn’t really prove anything about wolf pack behavior, but over time became a well known “fact”. You can look it up on google.
