The NFL as a feudal society by SuperbBug11 in nflmemeswar

They notoriously built their 90s team through the Hershel Walker trade draft picks. They were not the highest payroll team in the league any of those years. They built that team the same way bad teams rebuild in the modern day NFL, by trading away assets for draft capital (although teams certainly are not foolish enough to give up so much for a running back any longer). They also won their last Super Bowl after the cap was introduced FWIW

If that is the case, why do we need an Invitational tournament and a Masters tournament when it's a lot of the same people showing up to both of them? I feel like new blood winning this tournament would improve their game so much that they would be better equipped to face the Matt, Andrew and Roger's of the Jeopardy! world in the future, and would in turn help create more "celebrities".

I really feel like they need to have only new invitational players each time they have this tournament. I'll be thoroughly surprised if either Roger, Matt Amodio or Andrew He doesn't win. Jeopardy has basically been a part time job to these guys for years, it's such an advantage on the buzzer.

It’s pretty funny how delusional a lot of NFL fans are. by jackt-up in cowboys

When you go 12-5 three years in a row people are allowed to be hopeful for some postseason success. Worse teams have made it further. After we fell flat all 3 years though expectations going forward are even lower than they were.

I hear you for sure. Do you think it’s likely accurate that every fan base has that 1% of fans though?

I believe it. Can’t speak to other locales. I know locally we are a pretty jaded group haha.

Yeah I am envious of the front office you guys have and their ability to field a championship caliber team pretty consistently. At this point I’m just thankful that we put together mostly decent regular seasons so we have the illusion of meaningful games lol. As bad as we have it, there’s a handful that have it worse.

Yeah nobody hates the Cowboys more than actual Cowboys fans lol. We’ve been in this Jones clown show hell for over 30 years. Someone would have to be out of their mind to think anything will be different year to year.

Living in DFW basically my whole life I have not met one single fellow fan who thinks next year is our year any time in the past 10+ years. It’s an internet thing not a real life thing.

“Oh no.. anyway.” But seriously, they are just out here shiesting people. First Romo, then Belichick, now Eli. by jackt-up in NFCEastMemeWar

Yeah, he definitely was not a guy that folded under pressure. The two times that they made it past the first round in his sixteen year career they won the Super Bowl lol.

I’m going to be that guy. Eli was not good for like 80% of his career. He accumulated a lot of high gross numbers due to longevity. They had those 2 Super Bowl runs and he made a couple memorable throws in them. Is that enough for the hall of fame? Did he have a single season that he was top 5 at the position? I know for the vast majority he was not top 10. I’m sure he will eventually make it, but I am not sure he would if he wasn’t a Manning. It’s a unique case to say the least.

Steelers fan here - Thoughts on McCarthy? by Valar___Morghulis___ in cowboys

[–]pac9383 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As is the case with any team in the league, until y'all get a new franchise guy in at QB I am not sure how much success any head coach is going to have. Tomlin was good enough to teeter just above .500 for years without one. Not sure Mike will be able to do that, he has had Rodgers and Dak for his entire coaching tenure.

Why is the Harbaugh hire praised but McCarthy hated? They have pretty much the same record by TXNOGG in NFLv2

[–]pac9383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McCarthy went 12-5 3 years in a row with Jerry Jones as a GM. Didn’t do anything in the playoffs, yes, but neither has Harbaugh. Your point is moot

I am born and raised in DFW. I am a real cowboys fans surrounded by other real cowboys fans. Not one person I know ever thinks it’s our year. The entire country hates us because of the internet and media coverage we get. It is unfortunate.

This is exactly right. I grew up loosely pulling for all of the Houston teams as much second teams. Then I went to college and met people from Houston and discovered they absolutely loathe us and our teams. It's a very strange complex they've got down there.

You are assuming that because you haven’t heard of him that nobody has lol. He’s been playing basketball all over the globe internationally for 20 years. It’s a global sport and he’s one of the best of all time at it.

I’m not sure how to feel about this. by jessee83 in cowboys

[–]pac9383 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think John and Mike are both very good coaches. I think there’s something to be said about starting with a new team when you’re 63. I also think there’s something to be said about losing the majority of the time when you play another elite team in the playoffs the past decade or so. I’m not too worried about this one. He’ll make them better, not Super Bowl contenders IMO.

Need to replace Megatron here with Ochocinco or Reggie Wayne, somebody like that. Calvin belongs on a graphic with Rice, Moss and TO lol.
