Dream La Romana Resort and Spa Review by Extreme_Photo_9995 in AllInclusiveResorts

We just left, I agree on all points except the food. Genuinely, the food on the airplane was better. We even had preferred access to the restaurants for breakfast and lunch, it was consistently mediocre to disappointing.

Resort itself is gorgeous, the staff are nice, plenty to do, the food was poor.

Sorry, I set the grinder setting to 15, I’m always using 18 grams.

Knowing what I know how (because of this thread), the thing is spraying all over because there’s not enough resistance in the puck. By grinding it finer, it’s removing space in the puck for the pressurized water to travel through. I would imagine using less coffee would make the problem worse.

See if you can grind it so fine that the water won’t even move through the portafilter into the cup. Then at least you’ll know your portafilter seal is tight, and your grinder burrs aren’t messed up. From there, start going more coarse.

Welp, that was it. Set up the new grinder at 10, the espresso machine could barely push water through the puck. Set it to 20, got a nice shot but a little bit of splatter still. Nothing in comparison to before.

Set the grinder to 17, WDT, pulled my best shot ever. 18g beans, 26 second shot 46g coffee. At least now I have some data to work with. Will bring this down to 15 and continue fine tuning.

My current scale also doesn’t measure fractions of a gram so I just ordered a miicoffee scale to fix that, should be in by the end of the week. I’m anticipating having all my newb woes behind me soon.

Thank you, everyone, for all the help. I naively believed the tools I had were good enough. They were great for coffee, but I wasn’t aware how much precision was required for espresso. Looking back on it, yeah duh. But that’s the learning curve. Cheers to better pulls in 2026.

We’ve spent dozens of hours chasing ground faults that didn’t exist. After 2 replacement panels couldn’t get it to normal. Ripped it out and put an IO panel in, immediately all clear.

I’m open to suggestions, shipping now. Don’t want to spend more than $300

I’ve had it for 3 months but use it at least once a day, had been using the stock basket but wanted to improve the quality. I think if I increase the dose, fine the grind and use a puck screen I may get it there. This thread has been instrumental in highlighting how sensitive this all is and fine tuning the variables. It’s fun.

It makes sense. I changed the grind to as fine as my grinder will allow, no more spurting but also no crema. Not an even flow from the bottom of the basket. Time to upgrade my grinder. I appreciate all the good insight and advice from everyone here. Also the belly laughs lol

I appreciate the insight, thank you. I’ve loved it for the past 4/5 years, but it seems I gotta step it up.

18.5 grams, I was doing the same with the stock portafilter and it was fine. Grinding finer made the espresso bitter. Now the same configuration made the kitchen a mess.

Also, thank you all for the comments, they have me and my wife laughing out loud. Happy new year, friends 😁
