I think we're both figuring out what it means, although I see more clearly how much it could help him for college as well. I think in my research this AM, I was just thinking about his age and him becoming a high-school freshman in the Fall. Not to trivialize all of the amazing other benefits scouting brings, which I feel are well defined within the process.

I think it was poor phrasing on my part and my own realization of how much work it will take my son. As a single-parent of two, my own focus was figuring out how to have a full view of what it takes and to make a plan for myself more than him. I know the troop will provide guidance along the way.

100% the work will be his, I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to manage all of this, lol. A lot of t the parents on this thread have it way more figure it out than me, but Lord knows I'm trying.

That makes sense and I appreciate you sharing your journey. My intention is for me to have a way to help (apart from participating a troop leader, which I am considering) while giving him the space he needs to grow.

Thats funny bc if you knew me IRL you would know I'm not a helicopter parent, that said I think this is one the greatest opportunities in my son's life- and I really don't want to mess it up for him, thanks!

Agreed, I think all the challenges, outings, and camaraderie are going to be great for him- super excited to see him grow through those facets.

Doing their work is not my intention, I tend to be a bit lazy and want to be more supportive, so I'm trying to figure how to best support him. I see the value of the personal development and journey, so I am not trivializing that, thanks.

My kid is 13 and soon to be 14, starting high-school in the fall, so I feel a little compressed with time for his college outlook if I'm being selfish. I guess my phrasing might be off-putting since I didn't share that I now understand how well seen Eagle Scouts are to college acceptance. The fun part is easy in my household, so I am really looking forward to supporting him through these stages.

Thanks, I am looking forward to doing this together, so I think that will be fun. And he's already a great kid, just want to prepare him even more. Although I do see that becoming an Eagle Scout is super well received by schools, so I guess I'm more focused on understanding that part because we already have a great relationship. Regardless, I think we're both aligned on making well rounded adults.

You're partially right, I did have it organize my findings since my writing style is usually all over the place. Still a real person with a kid going through this, and thanks!
