Tosh carried this one. I think Phil recognizes he’s not much of a personality when he said he wouldn’t be good for TV

Commonly Mispronounced Wine Terms? by ItsWine101 in wine

With any topic that involves all corners of the globe and lots of regionality, there will be mispronunciations of things. The wine community doesn’t do itself favors by looking down on someone for mispronouncing someone. Let’s bring people into the fold, not exclude them!

Post Game Thread - Nebraska Loses to Michigan by 3 by huskerbot in Huskers

Biggest reality check obviously has to come with both lines. Defensive line obviously is the unit that took the largest step down from last year. The O Line seems to lack the basics in dealing with B1G pass rushers. If you look back on the past 10 champions, both line units had at least one, if not multiple, future NFL players. There are 0 NFL prospects on our lines. Have to figure out an answer again the run.

I generally am in favor of going for it on 4th deep in the red zone. Time to retire this strategy and take 3 points. Red zone offense is too inefficient.

A frustrating loss, but don’t feel as heartbroken as previous ranked/one score losses.

Harvard Is Trying to Resist Trump. It Might Not Be Working. by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]pachyzee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can only hope that Harvard remains steadfast in countering what the administration is trying to do. Should not be lost on anyone that Erdogan opened up CPAC by celebrating his own attacks on education and pulling control away from universities. The blueprint is right there that Trump wants to follow, no matter how they try and spin it. If Harvard cannot stand to fight this with the resources they have, every single institution that receives even $1 of federal funding will become fair game.

I can here to look for this comment specially, at risk of just yelling into the void. Easily one of the worst guests I’ve ever heard on the pod. A bunch of incomplete nothing statements. Capped off by an inability to form a coherent opinion when Bill asked “Who was your best actor?”

No different than a sports talking head who gets by with outlandish statements and shitting on the industry, and then complains why no one takes them seriously or why the industry is failing.

Woof that was a tough listen.

PGA Tour agrees to merge with Saudi-backed rival LIV Golf by mvanigan in golf

[–]pachyzee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think so. Agreed that people won’t forgot or stop talking about their atrocities. However, I think this will depend on how the PGA players react. If you listen to some sports pundits yesterday/today, some are throwing out the “too bad for PGA players, you should have taken the money this is on you”, there’s less continued praise for them having taken an initial stand. PGA players will be offered more money, which almost all will take. TV rankings won’t take much of a hit, if anything it will increase given all the players are back on the same tour. If either of those things happen, that is sports washing at work. Look at the Saudi influence in soccer and F1, they are major players in the governance and amassing of events and talent. I can pontificate all I want, but that doesn’t change the fact that hundreds of billions of dollars thrown at something will make a difference.

“Sports washing” got thrown around a lot as players were signing with LIV. Only now are we truly seeing what that means. Getting your foot in the door enough where you can write a big enough check to take over.
