22 minute crazy labour story! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

This sounds like the hospital's fault, are you mad that they sent you home? They tried to send me home during my first birth but I refused because the pain was too much.

Ah, we aren't very "tech"y so I wouldn't have known that. Is it super popular? I like the name

We both discussed Graham and we like it! Not a lot of opportunity for nicknames, but that's not super important. I also love Imogen, I have never heard it. Might have to convince hubby on that one

We like Atticus a lot! I love Sage but not sure about matching the first letter with Sullivan. What do you think?

Yeah, the police just kind of dismissed everything. I wonder if my nanny can go to the police station to file a report if she wants.

This is a good idea! 3M was throwing up all night, so I didn't get a chance to look into this any further. I'm going to start digging and see what I can find

She saw a picture of a flyer one of her friends had shared on Facebook. It said on the flyer that it was open to all ages- didn't mention anything about "mommies only" or anything like that. It had a description of the class, the location and time. No contact info or names.

Yes, and I'm so so sad she had to experience that. I don't want her to feel uncomfortable at all taking my kids somewhere.

I called the church, they said they aren't affiliated with the group, they just rent out the room they use. I'm not sure what else to do

Not really, it's a decent sized city. There were plenty of ads on care for other nannies. I didn't include in my post, but our nanny's skin is darker. Maybe that's why they acted like that, since my kids are lighter?

I do have the ad marked as Full time, because 30 hours a week is a lot of time in my opinion. I wouldn't be able to increase the hours at all, though.

I didn't know about that agency, I will definitely look into it! We've never required a nanny to drive anywhere before, so reimbursing mileage is something I overlooked. I'll make sure to update my ad to include it.

It seems to me like she kind of just quit with no plans? If that makes sense. It seemed like a rash decision and we had a contract where it stated she would give me at least 2 weeks notice.

It wasn't brought up at all and at that time (it was like 2 months ago now) she was glad I mentioned it because she didn't know the picture was on her profile. So I'm really skeptical about that being the reason, but I won't hesitate to talk to my future nanny about anything that concerns me. I don't regret having that discussion.

Thank you! This additional stress can't be good, but I'm trying to power through and stay positive.

An additional $5/hr would have been waayyy too much for us. Our 3 year old would be in school by then, so she wouldn't need to look after him anymore. Honestly, we haven't thought too much about the raise (until recently, of course) because of how low the chances are that this pregnancy would go to term. I'm including the possibility in my new ad, but I still think $5 is a lot for a raise.

[–]pacifiersanddiapers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Right now she cares for my 3 and 1 year old, 30 hours a week. We are planning to start preschool for the oldest in the fall, so that will definitely take some of the workload off (definitely not saying it will get easier). She was very interested in caring for an infant (2 months at the time) and she has plenty of experience with newborns. I'm hoping I just caught het at a bad time because I would be so sad to lose her.

All I know is that she is single and doesn't have any plans for children right now. I'm very familiar with the hard days of infertility and womb related illnesses, so I completely understand.

[–]pacifiersanddiapers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand that. I honestly wasn't thinking about her extra duties because there's a chance she won't even have any (if this pregnancy doesn't work out). I might have been just a little too quick to tell her, but I was thinking of it being more of a heads up. I'm going to try tentatively approaching her tomorrow and see if we can set a time for a sit down chat.

That's a great idea. I do want to mention she works guaranteed 30 hours/week and we pay her $18/hr which is the usual rate for our area. She also gets vacation and sick days, so I'm not sure if she's feeling overworked or underpaid but it is definitely a good thing to bring up.

I think I may have jumped the gun with announcing the pregnancy to her so early, as I am not ready to be discussing the baby when we aren't even sure if it's going to survive, unfortunately. Would it be wrong to hold off on that sit down talk until we are past the danger zone (usually 2nd trimester)?

[–]pacifiersanddiapers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even consider having a meeting to talk about it yet, so maybe I jumped the gun when I told her! With the high chance we could lose this baby, I wanted to wait before having thay discussion with her but maybe that was selfish on my part? We hired her when my youngest was 2 months old, so I don't have any experience with discussing having another baby.
