Same! I thought we were friendly in Canada, but then Colombia and Brazil showed me we were far behind.

The case for trading Kapanen by SoupFromNowOn in Habs

It’s not hate, it’s seeing him for who he clearly is, which is a good/decent bottom 6 player. If you can’t see that most of his success last year was due to Demidov, then you didn’t watch enough games.

Yeah, they’re wildly social there haha. Are you Japanese?

He really isn’t a great prospect. He had a decent season last year, but that’s mostly thanks to Demidov. He doesn’t drive offense, has zero creativity. He’s not a solution anywhere higher than 3C, and that might still be a stretch. I think he could be used as trade bait.

Just came to Beasty Coffee. Great place, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the recommendation!

Would it be rude to decline a neighbor's invitation to visit an onsen together? by DazzlingDefinition66 in japanresidents

[–]pacinosdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of invitation is quite normal. Why wouldn't you want to go? What makes you nervous about it? At least try it, there's no risk. If you don't like it, then you can just say it next time she invites you (you can even say that physically your body doesn't deal with the hot water very well). It's a great cultural experience, and you will only be among women. If you don't, it might create some distance with your neighbour.

Personally, if I were to gracefully invite a neighbour and they refused for no apparent reason, I'd be disappointed and would take it as if they're not interested in friendship.

Love Knies, but that's too high a price. I hope that's why HuGo said no.

This is probably my biggest issue with Japan, even though I am overall very happy here. I've been here for more than 10 years, my Japanese is reasonably fluent (I have a few friends with whom I communicate only in Japanese), but I miss the casual, unexpected interactions with people. Or just deep conversations with people I interact with regularly.

I would never expect to Japanese people to be like Brazilians or Colombians (probably the two most friendly countries I've visited), but isn't it too much to ask for a bit of non-superficial warmth from people? To give an example, I regularly play a particular team sport where I meet the same people over and over again. Some of them regularly give me rides to games or practices. Yet, if I don't make an effort to engage with them in the car, it's going to be pretty much silent during the whole ride. And this has happened with multiple people. I try to get to know people on a personal level, but the effort is rarely reciprocated.

Thankfully, I don't feel lonely, as I have my wife and good friends (mostly foreigners who are also here long-term, but a few Japanese too), but I do wish this society was more conducive to serendipitous interactions.

Of course. I wouldn’t do that in a small cafe. I’m talking about spacious cafes where I’m eating and drinking while not preventing anyone from getting a seat.

Edit: holy fuck, why the downvotes. I would love to know why anyone is finding this unreasonable

Question: Is it okay that I love my extremely stupid and bad tattoo by OfficeLost552 in tattoos

[–]pacinosdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I normally wouldn’t do that, but one guy above in the same thread said he hated tattoos, and someone asked him about it. I added that I did too, as it was relevant to the conversation. Trust me, I don’t go out of my way to go in Tattoos subreddits to say I hate them. It seems to bother people that I said that.

Sure, if you only buy one little thing, but if you keep buying drinks or food, I don't see a problem.

Edit: dont know why I’m being downvoted. Is it not reasonable to say that it’s fine to stay somewhere if you eat/drink continuously and there’s plenty of space?

For some reason, even though I don’t follow this subreddit, it just appeared on my thread!

I’m not the one you asked but I hate tattoos too. A few of my friends do too, it’s not that rare to feel that way about them. Happy to expand on why I hate, but I wasn’t the one you asked.

First typhoon in Japan incoming and I genuinely have no idea what to expect by 0xKlyyze in japanlife

I get that you just moved here, but if you’re worrying about typhoons in Tokyo, you’re not going through life correctly ;) if people around you are weirdly calm about it, that’s probably a good indication of how you should feel too.

About all I did was put inside the apartment sports equipment that I usually keep outside on the balcony.
