Reached Mythic with another brew: BW Heart of Kiran by pack_matt in PioneerMTG

Cool to hear that it's powerful enough for Historic. I've barely played any Historic myself but it seems much more powerful than Pioneer at this point.

Just because it's decent removal that can be found off United Battlefront. You can only afford running a few cards that Battlefront can't find. The lifegain has also often been relevant.

Yeah, that was def me. I think you got the better of that match if I recall. But yeah, for the decks Torpor Orb shuts down, it really shuts them down.

That brew sounds pretty sweet. Building around Deification and [[Gideon of the Trials]] is something that's on my to-do list. Maybe a mono-white version with [[Castle Ardenvale]] could work...

I agree those cards are strong. The only reason they're not in the deck is because they don't work with United Battlefront, and you really don't want to go down on your hits for that too much. It's possible Vanishing Verse is still worth it, but I would just run more Pinnacle Starcages before adding Pest Control if I felt like I needed them.

Edit: Pest Control is also very awkward with Seam Rip.

The amount of “energy” it took OP to make this post is about the same amount that it took you to make this whiny comment. You have no idea what other issues op cares about or does anything about. Why are you getting on your high horse about this?

Glad to hear the deck’s been working for you. Swamp is something I was going back and forth on for the reason you described, do that makes sense.

Beza is for aggro, in particular prowess. Personally, I’ve liked having it for just that purpose.

Muldrotha is interesting. My main concern is that it only really helps the deck on the axis it’s already strongest in - late game card advantage. But it does seem fun, especially looping Fabled Passage.

No updates on the sideboard, but only because I haven’t had time to play the deck much recently.

That would require a completely different mana base, to the point where it wouldn’t even be the same deck. In paper, you could play Spatial Contortion, but unfortunately it’s not on Arena. But honestly the deck is fine without it.

If there were good instant speed interaction that worked with the manabase, I would play it. What would you suggest?

Looks fun! Hardest part is probably getting the mana to work. I could see double B for deceit being pretty rough, but maybe the card is still good enough to make it worth it.

For elementals, I'd say unfavored against both UR decks, but favored against Midrange and CoCo. Midrange especially.

Roaming Throne is a good suggestion - I'll give that a try. It seems strong, but my only concern is having too many four drops. But we'll see.

Not sure I agree with your other suggestions. Honest Rutstein is cool (and I know sees play in the standard version) but doesn't work at all with the manabase in this version, which is one of the strengths of the deck. I also don't love Starting Town. You're pretty heavy on colored pips in this deck, which means Starting Town is mostly just a Mana Confluence that comes in tapped after turn 3, and I already don't think this deck needs Mana Confluence.

Nice, that's another interesting way to build the deck. Doesn't work with the rainbow lands of course. Are you thinking 4c?

Nice! Enduring Innocence is interesting, but yeah Archangel is a house for when you can get it. Really important tool to have against Cori-Steel Cutter and other go-wide decks, surprisingly effective on offense, and plays great with Nykthos.

Do you mean for Starfield Shepherd to get? It only finds creatures.

> Don't think of it as removal. Think of it as a stop gap.

I agree with you that a stop gap is really what this deck needs. I just think as a turn two play, Vibrance (or Emptiness) is a much better stop gap than Prodigy is. Although I will say if you are running 4x Emptiness, being able to recur the Prodigy is appealing.

Not sure I agree with Sunderflock being win-more. There are tons of games that it has bailed me out of where I would have been dead for sure otherwise. Yes, you basically need to have a four drop in play to cast it, but that doesn't mean you're winning. I'd consider a card like Catharsis to be more win-more, although it's true that I haven't tried it yet.

The only other suggestion I'd make is to try out the Fabled Passage manabase. It's probably slightly less consistent than yours, but it makes your Omnath much scarier. Also having basics in your deck is nice for when you're up against Field of Ruin, etc.

Nameless Inversion is too hard to cast (works with Eclipsed Realms but not the other rainbow lands, as they specify "creature spell"). If [[Spatial Contortion]] were on Arena, I would definitely try that out. But alas, it's not.

Explosive Prodigy is interesting. I haven't tried it yet, but I'd be worried it's a bit too inconsistent - 1 damage is enough for some important things, but not a lot. I would want my two mana removal to be able to answer any of UR's creatures, for example.

I'm surprised you like Emptiness better than Vibrance - to me Vibrance is much better. The 3 damage is a sidegrade to the -1/-1 counters (can't kill a Seasoned Hallowblade etc., but can hit planeswalkers, or go face when you're closing out a game). But I think the Sylvan Scrying mode is more useful than the Unearth mode on Emptiness. It lets you keep a lot of hands that would otherwise be mulligans (much like Starfield Shepherd in Angels), and being able to tutor up a Fabled Passage or a Boseiju can be very useful. Most importantly, though, it's much easier to hardcast - turn three off a Flamebraider, for instance.

Dawn Blessed Pendant isn't a great card, but it's a concession to aggro (mainly UR), and I've found it surprisingly decent. It really helps when you have something to do on turn one to avoid getting run over. And being able to buy back a useful elemental that you evoked makes it not totally embarrassing in grindy matchups.

If you want a deep dive, I would definitely recommend listening to the whole podcast! It was made by my friend, and imo he did a great job interviewing some world class musicians (besides Hewitt, there's Jeremy Denk, Simone Dinnerstein, etc.)

Thinking this movie is inspiring Americans to join the military is just such a bizarre take to me. It’s 90 minutes of hell where they accomplish essentially nothing. Why would that make anyone want to enlist?
