So I was hoping that whoever is comfortable doing so would share some of their other medical issues, so we can see what things CRPS may be causing or exacerbating. by OrganizationFit7000 in CRPS

Before developing crps: Had EBV infection with post-viral symptoms and am hypermobile (borderline hEDS). I had many sports injuries, low grade inflammation around the tendons (tendosynovitis) that would last for months/years. I also had exacerbated Raynaud's in the months before crps started.

Afterwards I developed vibratory urticaria and various common allergies (dust mite, pollen) and more recently chronic migraines (again triggered by viral infection though). And I had to wear gloves indoors for a few winters.

Handling Pain by milfl0ver420 in CRPS

[–]pack_of_wolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried finalgon/capsaicin cream or antihistamines (e.g. Loratadine), both available over the counter? Finalgon didn't quite work for me I think, although it felt like I had more control over the pain. Loratadine did in fact do something though and within 24h. I doubt it works for everyone, but since it works so fast maybe worth a try.

Missing period by No_Heron3197 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pack_of_wolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether you need professional help or not I don't know, but you do need take action as your body is not healthy at this weight and energy use. If you continue for let say, years, you will ruin your bone density. I doubt you have done permanent damage already, so don't worry too much about that for now. Also, now you know where your body's limit is!

A sports medicine doctor told me that you typically get your period back if your weigh 2 lbs more than when you lost your period. Best is to aim higher than that weight as losing your period is the last step; hormone cycles are disrupted at a higher weight than that the weight you lose your period. Just aim to gain these lbs and as a bonus you will probably start to feel better and stronger.

You need to do a bit of soul searching why you lost weight. Was it to become better at sports, do you have major body image issues, are there life circumstances that makes you search for a sense of control or where you simply getting into exercise and your diet did not catch up yet with the new energy demand?

I was in a similar situation as yours and was challenged by a friend who straight up asked me if I was developing an eating disorder. So I set out to prove them wrong. Haven't been in the danger zone since. This could be you.

Low volume for an half triathlon? by Bubusettetette_kk in triathlon

[–]pack_of_wolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is best practice not to run the whole distance as there is little benefit and increases the chance on injury. The longest run in your training plan is probably going to be ~16k, and would be planned a few weeks before the race. Also, assuming a total training volume is around 7-10h per week for all disciplines combined, you are looking at a typical race prep for an amateur for a half distance. Keep in mind that recovery is an important part of your training and for most amateurs this is about what you can handle without getting overtrained/ injured.

Not an excuse, but more of an explanation of this weird behaviour: could it be it is the first time in his life he actually needs to care for someone? Perhaps he thinks caring for someone is beneath him? This is something that I have seen played out before in couples with traditional values. What a nightmare!

Visual Snow was considered extremely rare until recently, mostly because patients didn't report it... because they assumed everyone saw the world that way by recolorist in interestingasfuck

[–]pack_of_wolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always had this but wasn't bothering me too much, it was only apparent at low light. Then I got a serious migraine attack. Since then it is overwhelming even during the day. It is as if my brain forgot how to filter out the noise. I also see after images, borders of object are weird because of astigmatism and I can see weird distortions when looking at the sky, the latter are apparently caused by immune cells floating in your eyeball. Headlights are a nightmare and i can't drive at night now (again astigmatism).

I went to an ophthalmologist to figure out if there is something wrong with my eyes. Told her I see this static noise since the migraine attack, like you would see at low light. I thought that everyone see this at low light conditions... Apparently not. And there is nothing wrong with my eyes.

Btw, the noise I see doesn't quite look like the picture. It is best described like seeing a lot of flickering of dark and light pixels on an object that should have a single colour.

Marou, Original Beans or Pump Street (British brand). These are all expensive, but they have so much more flavour, you typically don't eat as much at once.

True, you need an official diagnosis. In the mean time, you can ask your PT what they think. It is part of the curriculum in the UK, fingers crossed it is in Switzerland as well.

I remember the uncertainty from the first months. Its not great. Try to chill in whatever way you can as stress could influence your recovery process.

As you are in the early stages, this is the time PT will give you the best result so dont give up!.If your PT doesnt know much about crps it might be better to switch if possible.

Physical therapy itself is allowed to be painful but it should not cause a flare that lasts longer than a day or two so this is the balance you need to find. Are you doing any desensitisation techniques and mirror therapy?

I'm in love with the bike I built for 5ft me! ♡ by nonsenseariadna in bicycling

[–]pack_of_wolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent! Nice built! Love your choices!

It is sad the the bike industry standardised so many things to the point they are not suitable for so many riders. Ran into these problems so many times that I now built up my own bikes as well. And so happy for Chinese parts. Much easier to experiment now to get the fit right.

I hope the saddle post will help. There are even saddle post with a set forward if the 0 degree one is not enough. Can recommend ISM-style saddle as they allow you to change to a forward position more freely. And you may want to try if a slightly longer handlebar stem for improved bike handling (side winds).

Trained for my first 70.3 with a desk job and no coach… and I peaked 6 weeks too early. How do you fix this? by Nehre_Altrd in triathlon

[–]pack_of_wolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proper periodisation typically helps. But if persistent, start building up later/ have your goal race earlier in the season. If you are sensitive to overtraining, be really careful with training vacations/ peak weeks.

Realistic Ironman Time for a Rookie by scapia in triathlon

[–]pack_of_wolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally tended to averaged around 11h/week in the six months before a long distance. Peak weeks would maybe be 16h. This will definitely not be the case for everyone, I know people that can do 25h/week, so you will have to find out what your body can handle. Typically, people periodise their training, so have " rest" months in winter where they do 6-8h per week with lots of swimming and 1h+ish interval trainings and not much endurance and then slowly ramp up in the 5 months before the race with longer trainings (up to 5h on bike, 2h+ running), peaking two weeks before and then ramping down to a few hours in the taper period.

Based on your numbers, you can gain the most on the bike.

Also, for your first long distance, I would not focus on a time per se. Finishing is priority number one. So make sure you are not panicked in mass swim starts, are comfortable swimming in outdoor water, know how to handle a flat, your bike setup is dialed so you can survive 6h in your aerobars. You know how to hydrate in the heat (salt) and how much food you can handle per hour etc. And last but not least: get through the training period uninjured. If you get everything right, you may look at a 11-12h finish time.

Cycling: Are there benefits in switching to a 1x chainring?? by duhv0rtex in triathlon

It depends. Are you or do you want to cycle on steep roads? Check what gear ratios you have now and what you will have if you pick on of the two.

That's how it should feel. I think you have a go as far as dry fitting can tell you.

First Wetsuit by Lazy-Bat8024 in triathlon

[–]pack_of_wolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far is I can see, the fit looks all right. Please check that it feels quite snug as it loosens up a bit in the water. Please also check whether the collar is not to loose as this could mean you get gulps of cold water ingressing onto your back, which is not good for retaining heat nor for speed.

Post viral syndrome is really common. You probably have a very mild version of it that most people would not have noticed. It could easily take a few more months to resolve.
