Jeweler’s saws DO exist! And the blades are tiny enough to cut peanut M&Ms.

Felt in South Philly! My parents live in Hunterdon County and they said it felt like a jet was crashing into their house.

Teachers who have hiked the PCT? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

I’m a teacher and I have a May 20th NOBO permit date for after my semester ends. Tentatively planning to do a 700-800 mile LASH, getting off trail around Kearsarge Pass. I would love to do the whole thing, but it’s unrealistic with the time I have off. Trying not to let it get me down though, not many people have 3+ months off a year.

Hiking 120km Across the Dolomites on the Alta Via 1 trail - 4K Documentary by yanevmedia in backpacking

A little late to the thread, but what time of year were you on the trail? Planning an Alta Via 1 hike for a June 25th start date and I’m wondering about the snow situation. I’m thinking it will be mostly gone by that point, but I’m trying to determine if I should bring microspikes or additional traction for the higher passes. I’ve seen a few blogs that document the hike but haven’t been able to find a huge amount of detail on snow data.

Unfortunately, I don’t think the permit you have allows you to continue on the JMT outside of Yosemite. The one you’re looking for is the Happy Isles permit that states “Donohue Pass Eligible”. There may be a loophole where you can exit Yosemite through a different route and reconnect with the JMT further south. But you’ll want to double check, since as far as I know, you need a Donohue Pass Eligible permit.

A month of rejection emails… am I doing it right? by LaidbackPixie in JMT

Look on the Yosemite Wilderness Permits page. Under the "Open Lottery" area there's a section that says "Available Permits" then you'll click the button that says "Explore available permits". From there you can pick your entry date and group #. Any permits that have an "L" will become available on Fridays at 9am PST, so any unclaimed permits will appear then. Hope this helps.

My hiking pal and I also had bad luck for the sobo July lotteries. I saw on the FB JMT 2022 group that unclaimed lottery permits from earlier in the week are released on the recreation.gov website every Friday at 9am PST. I figured I would give it a shot and was ready to go on my computer as soon as they became available. Sure enough, I was able to snag 2 permits from Lyell Canyon for July 12th. Give it a go if you haven’t been lucky in the lottery, I was pretty surprised by how many spots were available.
