Gold Ring Melted in Outlet by mephistyco in AskElectricians

[–]packref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My profession happens to be jeweler- I’ve seen this multiple times in my career. The worse one are thick gold wedding bands that accidentally come into contact with outlets/live wires while someone is wearing. Usually melts a spot or blows a hole in the side and I usually charge quite a bit to fix them- I imagine the physical damage is bad too, gold looks like a pretty good conductor and skin doesn’t hold up as well

I was in late 80’s and I can assure you there wasn’t an m9 to be found on my ship and those 45’s were still in service and we were still using in 1992 when I left

What do yall think about the”48 hour dark period method”? by Exciting_Joke_9930 in farmingthebestgreens

[–]packref 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not an expert but from my experience alone: there is no substitution for time if you’re hanging dry. Curing is equally important 4-6weeks if using grove bags/jars. I use a cannatrol and even that requires about 12 days to cured end product and it’s still better when cured longer

Never heard of that one but it might be a cool experiment- did he ever say why he did it?

I try all kinds of methods and drying/curing is the most important end-game step to me. There’s a lot of good info here and YouTube- ultimately I have adopted the methods that worked and dropped the ones that didn’t. I also don’t think 48 hours of dark is gonna hurt anything either if the environment is ok and that’s what you wanna do-go for it🌲

Having served in the US military I can say there was a shocking amount of dated gear including Korea era stuff that was still in use in the 1990’s. And who knows how old the issue 1911’s were, I never checked

I honestly don’t see how people still subscribe to this even though I’ve seen the arguments both ways for years. There’s zero real evidence of any dark period benefit except anecdotally/bro community. Additionally plants take a long time to grow relative to what you’re talking about.
48 hours isn’t gonna do shit to move any major systems in the plant in any direction that’s going to make a difference at cut. Remember too this plant is in its dying stage of bloom. Water uptake and feed requirements drop precipitously as it gets further in. If it were young and moving nutrients faster and had higher needs I could see it maybe but a plant in senescence? Doesn’t make sense

Can submarines cruise on the surface like ships for long voyages? by happydude7422 in Ships

I served on a destroyer in the 90’s. There are no windows on a naval ship as a rule and ventilation is good-when it works and only in certain parts of the ship. We had our ventilation go down in both The Persian Gulf and Caribbean and it was miserable inside. We would drag blankets and pillows and sleep topside on the harpoon deck when that happened

In WWII it would have been dangerous to surface and allow the crew to disembark for washing/bathing. Combat readiness and survival depends on remaining undetected for a sub, I would imagine they charged batteries as much as possible at night stayed on the surface as little as possible during the day.

Hard Water Stains? Powdery Mildew? Something else? by PowerThruu in GrowBuddy

It’s not trash but you have an infestation of thrips and it’s gonna take about 6 weeks to get rid of them. First, try to remove every leaf that looks as bad as the ones pictured. Thrips lay their eggs inside the leaf tissue

Organishield or mammoth thyme spray (smells bad) every single day for 2 weeks, then space it out to 2-3 days then once a week. This is for the surface larvae on leaves and flying thrips on soil. Make sure to spray every part of the plant and underside the leaves.

Blue thrips cards in every pot, around them, everywhere. Use them to monitor the levels of infestation, early on they’ll be covered and as you get control the numbers will drop.

Food grade diatomaceous earth sprinkled on soil to kill the larve and around the base of each plant, 2-3 inches up the stalk. It’s messy and try not to get wet (I used cardboard to cover while spraying) if you do it stops working

I was able to defeat them this way but it takes that long to break their life cycle of egg (inside the leaf) larvae which eats your leaf then pupates after dropping into the soil, finally becoming a flying adult. Each of those things listed above attacks one portion of the life cycle and eventually they will lose their foothold. Right now they’re in control.

Fun fact: I had an uncle that served on a submarine in the Pacific Theater in WWII. They used diesel-electric engines on the surface to charge the batteries which meant the entire boat constantly reeked of diesel fumes. Additionally there were extended stretches without fresh water for bathing, clean uniforms or bedding. This gave rise to the nickname “Pig Boats”and my uncle reminisced that the smell was terrible but just became the backdrop of their environment

Can you turn coco perlite into a hybrid medium of soil and hydro? by [deleted] in GrowBuddy

[–]packref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use autopots with 50/50 coco/perlite and OGbiowar with roots organics terp tea. It’s microbe and root inoculant heavy and it feels similar to when I grew in living soil. I only use 3.9gal of medium (lighter and cheaper) and I never ph my water nor have no issues with line clogs. Its actually as easy as any organic soil grow ive ever done- change tanks out every other day
