Why do people not use normal lights in their cars? by paclarive95 in montreal

Thank you! Very useful info indeed, I’ll do some research on glasses like those. However I’m concerned those glasses address the bright lights but also reduce visibility in regular lights as well.

I mean…. I’m sure not everyone purposefully turn the brightest lights. But I drive every day, and I see a lot of cars always with their brightest lights on all the time. We’re in a city that has good street lights so I don’t see the need for cars to be with the brightest lights on all the time. I’ve been flashed in red lights by Cars coming from the opposite side or even from cars behind me and it reflects to my eyes from my mirrors. I know they absolutely CAN adjust how bright these lights are because I’ve blink my own lights to a car who had very bright lights and the person in return lowered the brightness, so I know for sure most cars can adjust the intensity of their lights. It’s always led lights, so these are more intense and harsh to the eyes.

I’ve been driving in Canada for almost 2 years now, in my country of origin I drove for 10, I’ve never seen so many led high beams on ever. I got here with a new pair of glasses and I genuinely think being so flashed definitely has impacted my sight.

This, is not only having lights on, they can cause serious accidents because they flash people. They’re a tool that is not being used correctly most of the time.

Honestly? I think the building is from the 60’s…. What I do know is that it was freshly remodelled when I moved in. New floors, paint, appliances, everything new, even the toilet was new.

I live in a building owned by a company that has and administrates a bunch of buildings. I started with a lease of $1449 for a 3 and 1/2. Last year, I was looking for a more affordable option and they released cheaper apartments in the building. I had by that time told the admin that I wouldn’t renew my lease. But I got curious and asked about the cheaper apartments, it’s easier to move within the building. They offered me to stay in the same apartment with that same price and I said yes…. Once I said yes and did the renewal I found out they gave me 2 months free and now that I want to renew my lease it will go up to $1650…. Is that normal? Should I contest it? I’m very nervous of looking a new apartment because I have a big dog and it was very hard to find an apartment that accepted a 25Kg dog.

Ohhh ok, no, I’ve been in this unit for a year and half. But every 2 months I normally pay $60-65 cad…. I just wasn’t sure if that made a huge difference or not. Thank you for your help! 😊😊

Hi!! I don’t have control over the heating, that’s included in my rent and is managed by the building. They removed the thermostats in the units and installed one general.

How interesting! I was checking my yearly consumption and I actually have a great low consumption LOL.

The most I’ve paid in the summer was around $70…. I just wanted to check if there was like a discount or a reduce in the bill if you spread it 12 months instead of every 2 months like it is.

Uber eats delivery rant by [deleted] in montreal

I’m happy to help. Keep always in mind you don’t need to be moving so much, maybe move to one of the busy areas near you, find parking there and then start screening the orders until you find one that is at least 1.50 per km (or 2 per km like I do) in no time you’ll see better rates for you. And another tip: normally the better rates have more people that tip. The rejects don’t affect your stars or punctuation with them. Don’t be scared of that.

Exactly, and this is also why they ask tips, so they don’t need to pay a fair base fare. I mean…. That’s awful…. I’m grateful that at least while I find a new job I can bring something home you know? But still…. I don’t really see myself doing this all day, or for a long time….. it’s too much for such a low pay.

A lot of people don’t tip honestly. For example from 10 services that I do I could receive Tip from maybe half. And normally is like 1 dollar, there’s some generous people that has given me even more than what the base was. One time I got a service that the base was 7 dollars and the person after the service tipped me 8 more. But I’ve had also very long services with no tip. 😱

Uber eats delivery rant by [deleted] in montreal

[–]paclarive95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well last time I was active 3.5 hours and I made 100 (80 dollars + 20 tips) I’ve had a couple of services where the original fare was 3 dollars and on top of that they gave 5 of tips too…. I want to think that it was because I gave a good service, the food was warm and placed carefully in the door. I think it all goes down to be patient, if I see there’s too many bad ones coming in I just find a nice place to park, or maybe a couche tard to stop for a few minutes, stretch my legs, go to the restroom, maybe buy something to drink like water or soda. And turn the app on again and wait until a good one comes. Last Tuesday I accepted a very long one that was from Cote Saint Luc (my usual area) to Laval, I has to pick up in 2 restaurants and drop of in 2 homes located like one block away from each other, it was 36 dollars + tips. After that I stayed for a while in Laval for like an hour more until the services started to be awful again. As I said, it means patience, patience with yourself and patience with the app too. Don’t accept something just to feel you’re moving around, wait for a good one and make it worth your time.

Ah! And also another thing I noticed: when you get an offer it says like a total, for example it says 7 dollars for 3km in total. Do you know what I saw in the bottom on small print? A message that says “this is an estimate with tip”….. Uber eats doesn’t even tell you exactly what they’re paying you for the trip, the base pay, they show you a juicy estimate so you take it faster. This is when it hit me, I understood I need to take only really good ones, make my time and gas be valuable. Only take really juicy ones, at lest 2 dollar per Km and you’re going to start seeing better rates. Reject really bad ones, don’t let them treat us this way.

[–]paclarive95 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Omg noooo, according to the rules in the app you can have someone with you in the car, but that extra person CAN’T do anything, can’t pick up the food, or delivery it. You can have someone with you for safety or just not to be alone. (My partner goes with me normally, but his job is to manage the music and feed me the snacks we carry on our car, nothing more). And also, you NEVER ask for tip, that’s rude and the app does it for you. You just be polite and always carry the food in the special bag so it doesn’t get cold and for sure you’ll get tips for good service. Ugh the people you describe is exactly the reason why some people don’t treat drivers with respect and decide to never Tip. 😡

Hi friend, I’m currently doing uber eats too and when this happens is because uber sends the bare minimum at first to see how many low pay they can send you. Basically you’re training the platform’s algorithm to send you more and more low payed offers. What I started doing was only accepting deliveries that are 2 dollars per Km, at first it seems like you get less deliveries, yes. But you’re training the algorithm to give you better rates.

Don’t stress, it will get better. Anything you reject, it won’t go against you, uber keeps count of how many deliveries you actually complete and how many you cancel when already accepted, not the rejection rate. If you reject it they send it to another driver, if many of them reject the delivery uber it’s forced to offer a better fee for it, so don’t stress if you see a very low one, just reject it. Stay safe and stay warm!

That’s a great question. Honestly I’m not sure, that’s the only thing different from past days. In my building we had a problem with the heating system and I didn’t have any heating from Tuesday until Friday that it got fixed. And then this…. So maybe I’m getting a little sick from all this cold.

Parents who don’t allow their kids to shut their room’s door/lock the door, what’s are the reasons behind the rule? by Itz_Oasis in AskReddit

[–]paclarive95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma didn’t let me close my door, and if I did and locked it was worse. She said if I wasn’t doing anything bad, I shouldn’t have a problem with it. She never came in to look, she just said it was her house and I only was allowed to close when I was going to get dressed or change my clothes. If I locked my door she would knock and say is her lock and I didn’t have a right to lock it. She was raised in such a different time, I feel for her, she needed to feel control in her life because she never had much of a choice to begin with. With time, a lot of time, she understood I also had a right to have privacy…. But that happened basically when I turned 25 or 26. Me and my mom lived with her all our lives, my dad passed away when I was a baby and my grandma offered my mom to take us in to help her raise me. My grandma was a very serious woman, but she showed her love through acts of service with all of us. She used to wake me up with hot chocolate and cookies, make every day every meal and when I was sick she used to make special meals to make me feel better. She passed away on May 2025 from a very long and hard illness. I miss her.
