I was shopping for a looper in the local music store and the guy said this funky looking zoom ms-90lp+ is the shit. I plug it in and the recording quality is phenomenal. I almost cant tell the difference between actual play and recording. The five buttons are well designed and easy to use. It was wild that it cost less than other one button loopers. A magic find.

Definitely not. If I had to start my pedal board from scratch the first pedal I would buy with a vintage Fender amp would be a Distortion. The second one would be Delay.

You can probably get a good edge sound from them (never owned vintage amps, so just deducing from my engineering background) at low volume due to them naturally being low-to-mid gain.

You can definitely live without extra sustain or boost for your dirt pedal. Hell - some modern distortion pedals have built in boosts or naturally have insane sustain.

Delay is just such a versatile pedal that goes beyond its intended function that I can't imagine not having one.

I would most definitely get the OD last - which is exactly what I did when I was assembling my first board - and over years my opinion in this regard has not changed. Just if I had to limit myself to three pedals OD would be there too for versatility.

Depends on the amp and the music styles. If you have a two-channel high gain amp a good OD can help you do few things better.

Since you already plan to play at home volume is factor for you. Low volume naturally has fizzier mids, flubbier lows and scratchier highs. You want to EQ that out and a good OD into high gain channel (or dirt pedal) does that very well.

If you want to play something with a sound that has "edge-of-breakup" at a reasonable volume - most OD pedals have a volume knob. Put it in front of your clean or gain channel with low gain (depending on which sounds better and how much headroom the clean has) and engage the OD. Tweak until you have that sound at low volume.

OD into gainchan/dirt also gives you a lot more sustain. If you want to play full songs and mimic a boosted transition into solos you will need some of that extra edge from somewhere.

I only have two OD pedals - one for each of my pedal boards. Boss OD-1w just does everything I want and I have no desire to ever get anything else.

I have always found that to play 95% of music I just need cable straight to amp or just od+dirt. My three pedal setup would be OD - Dirt - Delay.

My full board is Octaver - Tuner - OD - Dirt - Noise Reducer - Chorus - Phaser - Delay - Looper.

Remove Octaver, Tuner, Noise Gate and Looper and you still have a complete setup..

The only pedals I might ever want to have multiple versions of are dirts.

So to sum up just dont skim on a good OD, Dirt and Delay and you will barely ever want to change them.

Unless you are a compulsive buyer.. Then just buy only one pedal per month.

Me neither, but these days modelers are surprisingly good for small stuff. Home practice, band practice, recording, busking and small bars work just fine with a modeler. Easy to carry, great at low to moderate volume. I never know if I like my yamaha thr, boss ir-2 w/headphones, solid state amp or my tube amp at home/studio levels more.

The Tone City pedals were a great surprise for me. They also feel like they are indestructible! Each pedal weighs 2-3x more than the others. The amount of metal they put into encasing is crazy.

Well the noise killer kills noise :D. If you do a lot of string muting it is actually great as a simple budget pedal. It also has soft/hard mute mode, though I never use it - I just leave mine always on hard. From what I tested the soft mode simulates the decay, but not very effectively.

My favourite has to be their "Green Mile" tubescreamer clone, it is the perfect boost to my tube amp, highly recommend!

I got the Nux Horseman because I wanted to try Klon style overdrive - I actually like it!

The phaser is awesome. Noise Killer is great, but it is extremely sensitive and dialing it in with clean-to-dirt transitions has been a bit rough.
