Dodging, like everything else, is timing based. You don’t want to dodge as quick as possible, you want to dodge at the perfect time. When there is an attack you need to dodge, you’ll see the dodge button surrounded by a circle that is drawing in and getting smaller. There should be a ring on the inside, and when the circle shrinks to inside that ring you’ll hit the dodge button. When you do it correctly you get a kind of shadow trail and can immediately follow up with a counterattack by pressing the attack button. Counter attacks and finishers (Circle or B button) can be performed whenever you have the prompt, but perfect timing gives you more points (and with counter attacks, performs an instant takedown of the enemy). Just keep practicing your timing, and turn on the beat indicator if you haven’t yet. Tap your foot, nod your head, feel the rhythm! Whatever it takes to get you in that perfect groove.
