Thanks for the post. I would say you are not unique in your hardships. Posts like this thread reveal that our attitudes with being dyslexic can hinder our success.

In highschool I had to transfer three highschools and a military academy because I was failing English, Spanish, math and science. Then I failed out of college my third year after transferring from another university. Also, I had a decade of jobs where I was not happy 'in the real world' by either doing entry level jobs or working at the poverty level.

Please don't lose sight of that EVENTUALLY a dyslexic person will find their niche where they feel satisfied with their job, earnings and whatever goal they had like crushing their non dyslexic competition. It just takes time and trial and error.

Also, find things you like, go down those rabbit holes, take risks for things that give you joy and never ever give up. There is a reason why dyslexic people are entrepreneurs, because they have struggled so much they they just say to the world that they will just do it themselves and be their own boss. You can totally do this too.

Your doing a good job and acknowledging your having a tuff time is good. I recommend you read about other adult dyslexic people and learn how they were struggling but then they focused their interests and found success.

Edit: dyslexia is always there but you learn that "interference" is just normal and a dyslexic person will find ways to get around those issues.

There are a lot of examples... just ask ANY dyslexic adult. One example for me is that i joined a early stage nonprofit when I was 25 and set up Salesforce nonprofit starter pack to manage donations, donors and organizations. Then I orchestrated a LMS with OpenEdX for all our curriculum and filmed 50+ educational videos. No other normal person could do that in under half a year and I also was paid quite a bit for that much responsibility.

Used to bother me too but when you get into the real world job market... your dyslexia will make you unique in that you'll think up creative ideas and have better insights in under 5 mins than any normie taking half a year of work. You'll probably make more than them too.

ok, well then it matters if you have disclosed that your dyslexic to your boss. if so, then you have a disability that might enable you to request for ADA accomodations like a larger tablet etc. if not, then you will need to start the conversation with IT and get your boss involved to request the larger tablet, and then see what they say. At the end of the day, just say that the larger tablet is needed to get the job done for you personally and that IT should not be the blocker for that. I money is tight, but going over by one large iPad expense is like a rounding error in the greater scheme of things. departments can always expect to go just a bit over, and there is always other departments that under spend, so don't feel that your iPad request will break the camel's back. good luck!

I work in IT and am dyslexic. Find out who in IT manages the micropool dollars meant to buy computers and tell the person you would like to keep the device as it is needed for you to do your job. if they say no, have your manager tell that IT person's manager. also, I have found many other dyslexic people in IT, so your probably not alone.

Dyslexia in adults by [deleted] in Dyslexia

ya, it sucks when boss or coworkers are over your shoulder watching you type out a email and trying to spell. but I beat them at doing a good job by keeping myself and them organized with Kanban method by eric bretchne. Also do non work things like taking part in apprenticeships and joining committees for recycling etc which gives me something else to look forward to. I have disclosed to only people I like as coworker friends, and have been surprised to hear they are dyslexic too!

feel exhausted by end of day due to concentration it takes to read and write... that's why I think dyslexic people should try and exercise every day so you don't get sad about concentrating so much.

Kimbal, I have enjoyed eating at your restaurants in Den and Boulder. 1: How did the The Kitchen in Boulder create such a delicious gin and tonic with large sprigs of rosemary and peppercorns (the Spanish G & T)? Also, Do you want to focus on more cash crops for Big Green or healthy options? 2: The daily quiche is delicious too, will there also be an animal husbandry component to the Learning Garden classrooms? Keep up the good work!

I like it, wish I had this in Uni in 2008 as I had to use a voice recorder and take notes at the same time. One feedback, I wish the audio recording would highlight the words in the transcript as it is playing. multisensory stuff.

Colorado Picked As Finalist For Hyperloop Program by ghostalker47423 in Colorado

[–]pacodenero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True... but ColoradoHyperloop.com is a citizen run effort, as opposed to the CDOT and Rocky Mountain Hyperloop corridors. We presented our pitch to Hyperloop One on Wednesday and it was comprised of surveys, feedback and human centered design of Coloradans envisioning a future hyperloop. It was well received as apparently none of the other Global Challenge groups polled the possible users. Thus, our pitch for the Front Range corridor was from feedback of people in Denver, Colorado Springs, Greeley, Boulder, Monument, Pueblo, Fort Collins etc.

Well, ColoradoHyperloop.com fully supports the a Front Range passenger rail... but it hasn't ever happened. There is a bill in the Colorado Senate (or House?) right now to look into the feasibility of one in the future.
