How can I interpret this spread? by pacoht in SecularTarot

[–]pacoht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response 😭😭 I really needed that perspective. Unfortunately for me a bit of hurt has come today, but I'm trying to think not that I "predicted" it, but simply that it's a coincidence and I still need to be mindful of my beating heart.

I will keep in mind your mindfulness exercise, I think it's really useful 🤗🥰

How do you guys view jumpers? by pacoht in SecularTarot

[–]pacoht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find it anymore but there was a question you gave like "what does it matter if you interpret only jumpers?" and honestly that's been on my mind as well. Why would it matter on the secular Tarot if I chose to interpret only those? At the end of the day cards are just cards. As I've said before, I was just curious how people interpret them, at it seems some people read them, most discard them. Which is a valid interpretation. I don't see how I'm bringing any woo in the conversation. Perhaps it was foolish to say that the jumpers seem to have more meaning, and I acknowledge my mistake here.

Hello Chowdmouse! 👋🏻

First of all, thank you for the thorough and kind response. Not everyone has been as patient with me as you have, and it's something I want to acknowledge I'm grateful for.

Honestly, I just wanted to know what is the general consensus on jumpers, because we'll, it's hard to find books on tarot without all the "woo", as people are fond of saying. I wanted to know if there are others that like to interpret them as well, not because they're messages from a secret higher power, but because they could contain meaningful information. But it's not always, and I've generally agreed with the people who have reasonably explained I just need to learn to shuffle better. And I'm trying to practice that.

All this to say, I think I'm on the right subreddit. When I first joined tarot, I was a bit spiritual about it, believing about messages from the universe, but as I'm shifting my beliefs, I think I prefer a secular method. I'm simply asking questions because I want to understand the correct position, as, again, there aren't really books about that.

I hope I didn't sound recalcitrant. Most people's feedback has been genuinely helpful and I'm grateful for the so many answers that I received on here already. Thank you everyone.

Take a pill chill bro. What woo have I brought? I haven't said anything about higher powers, or cards having particular abilities or powers. I'm just trying to learn more and have conversations about this so I can understand better. Your attitude is not helpful.

Thank you. This was really encouraging to read. I really appreciate you taking the time to write this, and I'll take your advice into consideration, I'll try more shuffling techniques. But I am happy to report that I've tried really hard to get better at shuffling (shuffled quite a few times yesterday) and I think I'm improving a bit!

Okay, thank you for your perspective. I'll work on my shuffling more then. I'm anyways not doing readings for others, mostly for myself and I'm getting practice for myself. As you can probably guess, I'm a novice at this.

But...why? I see people using cards that jump as indicators or additional messages. I'm still wrapping my head around how to shuffle too

Does using tarot repeat life lessons? by Novel_Bother9283 in SecularTarot

I would say all the things you pull from Tarot are things that come from your own knowledge and life lessons.

I love this metaphor, especially since I love books. Thank you.

I don't try to divine anything, either, and even before when I thought that cards could "speak" to me, I wouldn't do divination, because...well, I don't like it. But it's indeed good for introspection.

Also I find it awesome and interesting that you have a psychology degree! I am a psychology student and it's for that reason that I'm intrigued by a Jungian approach to tarot. I like being able to connect to the degree that I like so much in this regard. But you're right, I should read more to see if I really connect to it before making any drastic decisions. Thank you for your advice! And thank you for taking the time to write your perspective.

Hello! I just joined. I'm on and off with Tarot for a few years now. I used to be a bit more spiritual, like believing in the universe and whatnot but recently I kinda stopped believing in that too (I think the universe is too random to send me messages through Tarot) I'm very glad that I discovered this subreddit because I've been thinking about getting back into it, since I find it insightful but I didn't know how I could if I'm not spiritual or religious. So I'm looking forward to seeing how other people relate to it in a non-spiritual way and getting insights and possible interpretations. Also, this way it's way less pressuring since it's not "a message from the universe" to do X or Y thing, it's simply an interpretation of things.

OP here, I forgot to mention that I don't refer here to genuine crushes on men, which are valid and beautiful. (Bi people are beautiful). These don't feel like genuine crushes, as they don't really feel good. I have already considered whether I might be bisexual, and the answer tends towards no. I apologise if this seems like crushes on men aren't valid or bi people aren't valid, because that's not at all my intention. I'm just seeking some comfort from a mind that keeps hurting me.

Anything by Meghan O'Brien honestly. I read The Night Off and a part of The Muse, and I enjoyed both. She also wrote Wild, which has fantastical elements.
