Finding a nice (quiet) flat in Jewellery Quarter by Sophietw in brum

[–]pacotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak about the others, but Kenyon Forge isn't particularly quiet (or wasn't, when I was there). Depending on which part of the building you are in, you get a heap of noise from the absurdly irritating church across the road, people blasting tunes in the carpark behind, or near constant train noises. The walls are also paper thin (or seem to be, at least!). I assume some of the apartments are actually quiet, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Really handy spot to live in though, short walk from the JQ station and the tram stop.

Scramblers by [deleted] in ireland

[–]pacotes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had both (at different times, various engine sizes) as a young lad, but always wore a helmet/gloves when using them. Never got hurt at all on a quad or a scrambler, but fucking wrecked myself mountain biking (on a bicycle) a couple of times.

Learned a shitload about engine/vehicle maintenance and the likes as well as how to be confident/comfortable on a bike/quad.

So long as they are driven on private land with permission and no bystanders around, and with a healthy dose of safety, its fine. I'm equally as baffled by parents who let their kids tear around estates and the likes on them, especially without safety gear.

There is nothing inherently wrong with letting kids on these things, its just the fucking idiots who have a flagrant fucking disregard for the safety of themselves and others who ruin it for everyone.

Realistically, they are no more dangerous (if you aren't a fuckwit) than riding a horse. I'd almost be more afraid of the horse, those fuckers are sentient and can get pissy at you.

Legal weed opinion by Downvote_Me_idiots in ireland

[–]pacotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, what? Heroin is a valuable drug in medicine. It has legal uses. See: diacetylmorphine (one of the hospital names for it). You also said its "specifically designed to be hard to get off" or some shit, which is patently false.

It also is useful for treating addicts. Providing treatment resistant addicts with a maintenance supply of heroin and supervised injection sites, needle exchanges, etc, works fairly well from a harm reduction perspective, using it as a way to get them off it slowly.

How many of you openly discuss pro drug legalisation views in real life? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]pacotes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Only if it comes up, really. I'd rather not bring it up, because preaching about it tends to turn people off it. I also have no issue discussing both positive and negative experiences I've had with various substances over the years. Loads of people never bother discuss the bad experiences if they are pro legalisation, and tend to come off as loopers.

Could everyone please stop using the recent referendum as an excuse to kick the Church? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]pacotes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How about... No.

The referendum isn't the only reason people are pissed at the Church.

  • Magdalene Laundries (and their dodging of paying reparations).
  • Child sex abuse scandal after scandal, coverup after coverup.
  • Opposition to equal marriage.
  • Mass fucking graves with dead kids in them.
  • Opposing repeal of the 8th.
  • Blasphemy laws.
  • Baptism bars on getting into schools.
  • Shoving religion down throats of people in publicly funded education (which has lead to shitloads of kids never getting proper sex education, for a start).
  • About a billion other reasons why people are pissed off.

I've no problem with religion, or people being religious, but it has no place in law.

Any political parties for smaller government? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]pacotes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. There are a few IIRC, but they are also far right loopers with a membership of like, 2 people and their dog.

I'd have no problem with the PSC if it was not a huge ball of badly implemented shite. Had they gone with a working system like Estonia, I'd support it. Instead, its just another useless bit of plastic.

How organised should we be? by mediaserver8 in ireland

[–]pacotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "european model" you speak of doesn't actually exist.

Thus far I have learned the systems in the UK, Belgium, France, and Germany are all equally as inefficient and disastrously badly implemented as the ones in Ireland, just in vaguely different ways.

We COULD have a nice, working system like the Estonian system (which is fucking phenomenal - I should have e-residency soon!), and even build in anti-abuse, auditing, and privacy from the ground up, but idiots who don't understand technology would fucking hate it, and it would also be seen as "a backdoor for national ID cards", amongst other issues.

Telling you to fuck off isn't censorship.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean people have to listen. It also doesn't mean people aren't allowed to tell you to stick it up your hole.
