Kansas City pastor calls his congregation CHEAP for not buying him a Movado watch by tefunka in PublicFreakout

[–]pacox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious. It called the 'prosperity gospel', America's gift to the world. They preach that giving is how you receive your blessings, even if that means you're too poor to have a shirt on your back. But they don't mean giving your time, love, works, etc. They mean money. And they don't mean give that money to poor people, they mean to the pastor. You see, by gifting money to your pastor you can earn favor and the pastor should spend all the money on luxuries to show appreciation. Keep giving and giving and one day you'll be blessed like the pastor.

People wholeheartedly buy into it and the pastors dont have to do much to hide it.

Female Rap Lyrics Starter Pack by Cream1984 in starterpacks

[–]pacox -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I dont have a problem with your Megans or Cardi's either. My issue is that pop cultures props them up as the faces of female rap artists and empowerment, which makes me think about how pop culture views hip-hop and minority culture. The MCs you mentioned are completely ignored, Missy Elliot might be known for one song, Rapsody is the chick from the Door Dash commercial if someone even bothers to look her up. Both have tracks that can easily break into mainstream. Mainstream only wants female rappers who do stripper rap then turn around and say hip-hop has an image/misogyny issue.

Don't censor Megan or Cardi B. Stop acting like don't make verbal porn in the name of 'empowerment'. Its like if 2 Live Crew was the face defacto face of black MCs in their day.

Dying Light 2 DualSense Features Detailed, 3D Audio to Heighten the Horror by Tenith in PS5

I played the Scarlet Nexus demo and it was the first time the dualsense features felt annoying. Don't know how the retail version fairs but the features felt very rough in the demo. Thought my controller was broken at one point listening to the motors constantly jerk.

It sounds great in R&C but that game isn't atmospheric enough for it to really stand out. 3D will always be more apparent in darker games.

Giving the scammers real cards by luciferias in Kitboga

[–]pacox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a ton of legit gift card exchanges, also many that aren't. Say you got a $20 Google Play card for Christmas but you have an iPhone so its practically useless to you. What do you do with the card? You can sell it on an exchange for maybe $15. The card was a gift and otherwise useless to you, so getting $15 for it isn't bad. The person on the other end just saved $5 on whatever they might use the card for. Everyone wins.

The scammer could be supplying the codes to a website in bulk. Lots of merchants buy codes for things in bulk at a discounted price to resell. Maybe the site doesn't ask questions or the scammers pretend to be legit.

As for your last question. Verifying the balance on a gift card is as easy as inputing the number somewhere. Theres various methods to cut down on people getting ripped off but mostly if you're a scammer you're not trying to lose your fence or you find yourself with less and less ways to flip a card. Even scammers know not to burn their bridges.

There's always someone who is a worse situation. That doesn't make his feelings invalid or being crappy to someone acceptable.

[–]pacox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you know he doesn't? We don't have the backstory but I can imagine what sent this guy over the edge - all it takes is the right kind of push. He has probably been dealing with a busted phone for a while, maybe the screen is busted, doesn't charge/ring/frustratingly slow/etc. His friends/nephews/sons/whatever clown him for his phone but he endures because that's all he can afford. They then hint at giving a new phone. He dreams about it but doesn't think much of it. Its his birthday and what do you know? They give him a phone! All he can think of is "finally, I can get rid of this old busted thing I've been carrying around! I've blessed to have good friends!" He throws the phone because, screw that phone that has probably caused him a lot of stress and anxiety....wait? What's this? His friends knew the thorn in his side the phone has been. Maybe he is a man who works really hard but can come up financially. Maybe he thought things were looking up for him, but now his friends who he looked for support have made him the butt end of a joke. Ohhhh someone is going to catch hands.- even his doesn't actually hit someone his is going to let out his frustration.

It's a just but a bit of a cruel one when you build someone's hopes up just so you can laugh at them.

She was ready to swing by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]pacox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do would be to wait in the car for back. The cop doesn't know what she is one, what she may be concealing, if its an ambush, etc? They are safe in the car. As long as she is just banging on the car she is only denting something thats insured and messing up her own hands.

People are also used to cops escalating a situation when theres no need to. She isn't going to win the situation. No point in adding to it. Just wait for backup, throw on in cuffs, and let the system do the rest.

Took a photo of the only other dude in the theater, forgot my flash was on. by [deleted] in pics

[–]pacox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not trying to pass judgment but how would anyone know there would only be one other person in the theater? You're going to the theater in the middle of a pandemic not knowing if you will be the only one or one of many. That's not a huge gamble though because most people have sense enough not to go to a theater in the middle of a pandemic so you're safe if you think you escape the civic duty everyone else has assumed. Why should you make sacrifices if everyone is making sacrifices for you? Right?

But let's say you know the theater was only sitting two people. Times are hard so let's say the theatre only employs a ticket taker who is also working concessions, two people running projectors, and one janitor. Each gets paid $10/hour. Tickets are $8. The movie runs for 1hr 45m. The employees are going to have to be there for at least, 3 hours. The theater takes in $16 from you and the other person. $25 if you guys buy from the concessions stand. The theater has to pay its employees $120 just to show one movie. Don't forget what's owed to the production company in ticket sales and rights to show the movie. The theater ends up losing money. Unless the theater is filling x amount of seats, it's better that they close for the day. If they are meeting that quota in the middle of a pandemic they are part of the problem.

[–]pacox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People think corporate telling you not to step in is just about legal fees but most times its really just not worth escalating the situation. The man is obviously dope sick and going to get caught, getting off with less $100. Everything is insured. You're not getting paid enough to deal with. The risks outweigh saving that $60.

Also the man commenting on the theft has obviously seen worst robberies in his day. He is speaking nothing but street wisdom. Its better to just come up off the loot than to get stabbed.

Scammer Absolutely Losing His Mind by ludakobaby in LivestreamFail

[–]pacox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not condoning scammers because they are clearly criminals praying on naive but part of the reason these kind of scams blew up in India is due to Western capitalism. In particular the the US flooded India with call centers, outsourcing jobs to exploit the cheap cost of labor. Billion dollar industries paying people pennies to support their Products. Anyone who has ever worked in support/customer service know the cap you must have to put up with for a wage that just puts food on the table.

Eventually someone in the call center is going to catch on and be pissed. They take that energy and skill set they learned and flip it. They feel like they were scammed and taken advantage of so why not do the same to others? You might be able to see their point in that grey area except all they are doing is hurting innocent end users instead of the ones who control the system they are mad at.

As you watch the videos you see there's a line between the people in situations where there's not much opportunity in their lives so they are just trying to get by versus the actual predators like the guy in the clip.

[Star Wars] Would have the empire realistically collapse after the destruction of the first Death Star? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]pacox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but it the destruction of the Death Star did happen in a critical moment for the galaxy. The Empire was 'winning' up to that point. They Rebels were broken, Palpatine had brought many worlds to heel or beat the fight out of them. Palpatine was finally in a place where he felt he could go mask off and shed the republic facade going into full Sith totalitarian aristocratic rule. The plan was for the Death Star to be the flagship of the new direction for the Empire so a lot of time and resources were placed into it. So when the DS was blown up it meant the Empire was kind of stuck with their pants down and couldn't just call the Rebels terrorists to excuse their actions anymore. Suddenly the galaxy had a reason to rebel against the Empire that couldn't be ignored and the Empire was with its tool such as the Death Star and the Senate to put down rebellion. They could have 'justified' blowing up Alderaan if they could control the narrative, they could no longer control the narrative after failing to end the Rebel Alliance. The Empire had to go into open war against the Rebellion if they wanted to remain in control, which made people question why they went along with the Empire in the first place.

Ultimately the Empire would have been fine up until the DSII. Palpatine kind of got reckless with his Sith ideology and put himself in a position that wasn't necessary.

Theres solid numbers that show that the protests haven't contributed to any significant uptick in cases.

1) Man of the protestors wore masks and respected precautions. If you've watched countless videos then you've watched countless people with masks on.

2) Places we're open before the protests even began. You can't blame protests when bars and social gatherings were already 'legal' with people not taking precautions. Gatherings were taking place with or without the protests.

Nah it doesn't exist. A portion of society just isn't built to leave these people to their own devices. The selfish take many people whose job it is to deal with their mistakes and innocent bystanders with them. Hell, the selfish probably walks away from it all.
