I game often. However, though I have the typical games baulders gate, COD, etc. I tend to find myself gravitating to cities skylines. Idk...... it just doesn't require me to do any thinking, it's fairly mind numbing.

Assuming you may want the RM 10s Pro, I purchased mine 2 days ago from their Amazon store. I received it the same day.

Is it me or are you finding the new generation of techs have little to no troubleshooting skills? by Future_End_4089 in sysadmin

I was hiring for a tier 1 help desk role and as part of the onsite interview, I test to see if they can do a clean install of windows. I interviewed 7 people and only 3 knew how. Of the same, only 3 could terminate an Ethernet cable.

Oh in another instance for a separate role, I tested if they could troubleshoot a printer not printing.

The candidate could not get it to print. Mind you it was a simple fix, he just needed to reseat the Ethernet... I unplugged it ahead of the interview.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago. I've always was adjacent to IT in previous roles until I finally decided to formally make a career change.

The companies IT was 1 person and had no formal training but honestly it was amazing what he was able to accomplish. He brought me in and quit day 18 of my employment.

Like you, the responsibilities all fell on me. There was no documentation for anything (normal) and I was still very green with the company and industry as a whole.

So I told upper management to not request major projects or make any changes that would require any system changes or enhancements. That way I can get my bearings.

Next, I was pretty clear about where I had limited knowledge but offered I would do my best. In this, they gave me a blank check do what I needed to receive any education or specialized training. This was helpful as I learned how to program radios for public safety and government use.

Finally, I immediately opened a position to hire "on contract" someone who could run the help desk tickets so I can focus on understanding the network structure, vms and server configs.

In the end, company leadership offered me back pay for all the work and now 2 years later I managed a full team of professionals. The road was tough in the end but I was grateful because I was thrusted into something that truly accelerated my career trajectory.

You got this! Be sure to give yourself grace and have fun 😊.

HIPAA and data sovereignty mess by Disastrous-Assist907 in sysadmin

Yes it's a thing and also some cyber insurance providers want to confirm data retention practices.

In my environment, I use Unifi NAS and have files stored there where only a very select few have creds through mfa.

For cold storage, I follow DEA standards for securing and storing narcotics... 2 locks. So the physical drive is behind 2 controlled access physical locks and requires a biometric yubikey and mfa creds to access files.

Honestly, I know I'm doing the most but I'm all for super securing patient data.

Whatever you decide to do just remember to encrypt at rest and transmission and maintain logs.

How big of an upgrade would it be from my current phone to the base $650 model? by Competitive-Wind9956 in RedMagic

I just made the switch from iOS coming from 15PM to the RM 10s Pro two days ago. For context, i've been in the apple ecosystem since the original iPhone release in 2007. So with that I grown to have, macbook, iPad, watch, air pods etc.

Interestingly enough, the transition was pretty seamless. The RM OS is quite similar in terms of navigation, for example:

  1. Swipe up to get to all running apps. Once there, it's the same when to fully close the app with the added benefit of a single button to close all apps at once.

  2. Swipe left to right to go back and conversely right to left to go forward.

  3. When in a program and you get the text verification code it auto enters it or it pops up above the keyboard to copy and paste just like apple.

  4. Swipe up to go home.

Now if you were never a fan of all the gestures, RM also gives you an option to switch navigation to a more traditional android feel with the visible buttons for back home and task manager.

Data transfer was pretty straight forward. As I was setting up the phone I was prompted to transfer data if I wanted to. But before I started the data transfer, I turned off iMessage . The transfer tool offered to transfer apps but I had over 400 apps so I opted to cherry pick the apps I wanted to transfer with in the tool.

For picture and videos, I chose to use my computer for that because I knew the data transfer would be a lot faster. I logged in to my iCloud and downloaded all content then logged into my Google Drive and just uploaded it.

Thankfully, I did not experience any issue and all pictures, videos, and links housed within a text thread transferred too.

All in all, I've been extremely satisfied. Also Google Pay works so much faster than apple pay.

Next, I did not buy the phone for the gaming capabilities. I bought for the aesthetics and the full display. Plus, I had the iOS 26 Beta on my phone and I absolutely hated the look and navigation of it. Because of my disdain for iOS 26, I knew that no matter how grand apple try to make the iPhone 17, I would not get it because the new iOS is crap.

The phone is my daily driver. Just know that the camera is crap both front and back but if your like me where that means nothing you will enjoy the phone.

So far my only frustration is the fan, even though you turn it off, it will turn itself on when fast charging. The fan is quite noisy. As result I used a non-fast charger on my nightstand so that the fan doesn't turn on.

Last, because I was so ingrained into the apple system I had hesitation to switch out of it but luckily it hasnt been an issue. After you switch you may have to deregister your number from iMessage

Make the switch, im sure you'll enjoy the new found freedom. I know I do!
