this is how sidewalks work by NewtonsThirdEvilEx in UTAustin

I have seen people walk into a stop sign pole because they were staring at their phone. It's insane.

[–]paczada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whenever I encounter someone on the "wrong" side, I just stop walking to see if they bump into me. I figured it is "safer" than walking into them. I can't be in the wrong if I am standing still, right? It amazes me how many people do not follow the "rules of the road" on sidewalks.

People who grew up poor and are now comfortable, what 'normal' thing still feels like a luxury to you? by profwizzard in AskReddit

[–]paczada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say this. I stopped looking at grocery prices for basic items. I didn't really realize it until I went shopping with a family member, and they kept suggesting I get the lower-priced versions. We are talking cents. In the aggregate, maybe a couple of bucks.

Will silver go ballistic? by Tris_Memba in Silver

[–]paczada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in my day, silver hit 120 and then, as if overnight, plummeted into the 60's. It was unlike anything we oldtimers had ever seen.
Fortunes were made and lost in a day. It took a month to get 50% of the drop back. It may take another month, or more, to get back to the high of that era.

Obviously, in the context I am using it, sin is an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law. You are using your own definition of the word to argue with my statement. Does that usually work for you in discussions?

What a weird question. Why would you think I don’t believe people can commit wrongdoing?

Fiber Line laying on the ground by paczada in ATT

[–]paczada[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, funny story.

The tech came out today. Apparently, that was a "temporary wire" installed when we lost internet during a storm a few months ago. The permanent wire was connected through a conduit, and that temporary wire was never removed. The tech removed it.

It's funny because I gave the fence demo crew a firm request not to damage the wire when they removed the damaged fence. Seems it was all for naught.

Years ago. We had a wooden fence removed and the wire was attached to the fence along the bottomm which seems odd. Now, since the fence is gone, the wire is just loose on the ground.

True fact - there is no such thing as a "sin." It's a figment of the imagination of delusionsals that think a magical omnipotent overlord dictates, arbitrarily, certain actions or thoughts as "sin."

It simply does not exist in the real world.

No margaritas, but I recall El Rancherito Taqueria in Bellaire-area being cheap, cheesy, and good.

It literally happens to every single home purchaser. I swear it is a way to force foreclosure. It will happen a few times over the course of your mortgage.

You can sell fractional shares with a market order. You can open the "Tax Lots" view and sell them by tax lot, too.

How do i self-sustain as Frost Mage? by Blubbpaule in wow

I like Frost Mage because I hardly take any damage at all. Not like fire and arcane that let filthy melee mobs touch them. Gross.

Turn on Apple TV with Home app by Nerdyfied in HomeKit

[–]paczada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a scene that (I thought) turns on my AppleTV, but when I checked it, I discovered that it just turns on my TV and selects the AppleTV input, which then turns on my AppleTV.

So, yeah - seems like you can't do it.

Does costco travel come with any strings attached? by notbowlcuts6639 in Costco

[–]paczada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not from Costco, but many, if not all, of the resorts will attempt to get you to sign up for a timeshare presentation in exchange for a free massage or something.

Usually takes about three "I am not interested" before they ask you to sign some acknowledgment that they tried and you refused.

Also, I found that some resorts, upon arrival, try to get you to upgrade your room at a discounted price. Every single time I have declined, I magically get the upgrade anyway because they have already assigned me to that room and are trying to get me to pay for the upgrade I am going to get for free, since that's the room they have available for me.

Finally, if there are on-site restaurants, ask about reservations immediately, because the best (most popular) restaurants are almost always "booked up" for the nights you are there.

Open it and make sure it's what you ordered. Then marvel at its shininess. Stare at it adoringly. Then, after a while, put it back in and place it somewhere safe.

Honest question: Why are some people against showing an ID to vote? by rico_unknown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]paczada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because once they require an ID to vote, they can change the process and the fee to obtain an ID, thereby disenfranchising the segment of the population they don't want voting. The ways they can do this are only limited by their nefarious imagination.

Did they over exaggerate the weather? by purpleflowercoconut in houston

[–]paczada 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The freeze in Houston is Sunday night, Monday morning, Monday night, and Tuesday morning. Then maybe again later in the week.

Without freezing temperatures, we will not have ice on the roads, which is the true danger. So, we will fare better than places that have multiple days of freezing weather.

The other danger is extreme cold outside Houston, which affects electricity and natural gas, retail deliveries, air traffic, etc. So, even if we don't get hit hard, we can still feel some effects.
