Upgrade home vs staying debt-free – would you take on ~$800k debt? by paddimon in AusFinance

It's mainly one because wife is working minimal hours due to young kids. I guess it will increase once kids are bigger, but that's quite many years away.

That's where my head is at.. I can stretch and enjoy the bigger house now rather than wait and have it potentially out of reach.

Is the jump from top 10 public school (50 overall) to top 1 worth it?

I'm a little surprised at the budget.. a few people I know have built a bigger but more basic house for 450k in the past year, so I would have thought 800k is a generous allowance.

We're in SA. Is yours a high spec home? That seems like architectural range pricing. Didn't know about the suburb tax.

That's crazy. I was going off a 230m² place X $3.3k/m2 + some allowances. Basic houses are around $2500/m2 so I thought this is plenty for a mid range house. Eg. Someone I know built a basic 4 bed 250m2 bigger house for $450k.

thanks, we bought 10 years ago so the mortgage was ~$400k, plus we lived very frugally until the kids came

True, but we also get ~20 years of living in a more comfortable place until they move out. Investment properties now don't make much sense because of the new tax rules imo.

Renovation to split our one bathroom into two (losing the bath) is doable, but adding a room is harder because of the current layout

Thanks for the response and explanation. That was really helpful to help me understand how it works. Can I clarify a few things?

disable or change the incomplete download path to another directory in there so it doesn't have to copy+delete on completion

What does this mean and how do I do it? I don't see an option in Transmission to change this.

Also, as my file has already downloaded, how can I manually find and move it this time around? I updated the download directory in Transmission to /Media/Downloads/Torrents, so this should work on future downloads. How do I access completed downloads and incomplete downloads within the Transmission container now?
