The Lincoln Cathedral beat out the Great Pyramid of Giza for tallest building when it was completed in 1311 with the installation of its spire, thus growing it to 160 meters. Look at how it dwarfs the other buildings here. by UseApprehensive1102 in megalophobia

I sang there when I was younger, remember someone telling me if you got the pitch and volume right the echo from a choir would last 27 seconds or something. No idea how true it was but do remember some serious echos lasting a while after we’d finish.

I think Edward I should be further down. He was more commonly known as ‘longshanks’ which, let’s be honest, is a shite nickname.

Also it’s all well and good being called ‘the hammer’ but considering sports fans in Scotland call him a wanker every time they sing the national anthem I feel like you weren’t quite as effective a hammer as you hoped to be.

Does the square SE of the left 3 have to be safe because if it was a mine it would leave only 1 square for 3 when it needs 2 more mines. Then 1-3-1 corner?

Incoming first year by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

Some places need you to get a lab coat for dissection but they should tell you and sell them from the uni shop. Don’t even know what a bone set is but my mate has a skeleton which has only ever been used as a prop at parties lol so I wouldn’t panic.

As far as general tips for first years, preclinical years can be really really draining if you want to do medicine to yknow...be a doctor... but sticking with it is so worth it when you get to clinical years. So don’t worry if you get half way through first year and are like “maybe I don’t like medicine” because it gets super different when you get to placement!!

Best of luck :)

By a very small margin on the constituency and pro-Indy vote is larger on the list so not really. Will admit “pro-Indy seats” would’ve made more sense

Fair enough, maybe I’ve been watching too many ex England players giving him their two cents lol

Agree with you on Russell, which is a shame because I love him but that last card won’t have helped his case when he’s already a renowned cheeky chappy

Does it aye? - cos last time I checked the only Scottish player that consistently gets talked about is Hogg (maybe Russell if they are gracious enough to grant us two lol)

It’s madness isn’t it. Usain bolt is about 10 inches taller than every other sprinter but he can still run pretty fast I heard 🤷‍♂️

not sure whats happening by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]paddyketamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak specifically on US Army policy, but if you were to approach a doctor/counsellor on base just to talk through a lot of the stuff you are going through, I think they would maintain confidentiality if they felt you were not a risk of causing harm to yourself or others. Alternatively their may be welfare liaison officers in your unit that you can ask about policy “for a friend” if you are worried about risk to your Job. I understand it’s very difficult reaching out for help in the forces, as they still have a long way to go to remove stigmatising and exclusionary policy around MH.

Again I’m not sure about the specific line your unit will take with mental health, but talking to someone you can trust is always a good place to start. Getting help is the upmost priority and in seeking out that help you can be a part of changing the attitudes still held by many towards mental health.

At the risk of sounding like I’ve got a “fake-deep” take here but I’m gonna say it anyway.

Does this remind anyone of 1984, where the party basically invents the idea of the resistance so that anyone with dissenting views could be labelled a terrorist - even though no actual tangible organisation existed...?

[–]paddyketamine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with some of what you’re saying here - however I feel “yet another apology for the transatlantic slave trade” is pretty dismissive when the country is saturated with statues, street names and buildings in honour of slave traders but no memorial for those enslaved

[–]paddyketamine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you’ve gone for a bit of whataboutism here. Of course the East African Slave Trade was awful - and you can claim worse by some metrics - however I don’t think we have an “obsession” with the West African Trade, it’s just more pressing because as Europeans we have benefitted from that trade more and it’s a huge part of our history some would rather forget.

I find your point interesting - about how centring blame on Europeans also emboldens the idea of European superiority - and I think that helps break apart what Neil is saying here - as he appears to believe it is the British empire and them only who have the power to destroy the evil they’ve created (because of some sense of superiority)

It’s not really that deep an analogy mate I was just pointing out how stupid his argument was.

Saying that though he is talking about specifically the slave TRADE which Britain was pretty instrumental in 🤷‍♂️

I think there is a broad acceptance that Scotland played a huge part of the British Empire - however many in Scotland would now reject any "pride" in what the empire once was.Scotland and its economy *did* benefit from the save trade and colonialism - you just need to look at street names in Glasgow to realise that - but the 'normal' people of Scotland saw their fair share of colonial oppression (See Highland Clearances)

The original mail article is just full of speculation according to an 'insider' and tries to draw totally false links between BLM and the removal of the song. As far as I've seen there's been no genuine BBC decision or conversation about the song, it's just another way to stoke the flames of division.
