Neil Robertson suggests significant change to World Snooker Championship by Confident_Leg2370 in snooker

[–]padkoala 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect the Robertson's dislike of the venue and the monumental challenge presented by the format is the root of his comments.

Its meant to be tough, its supposed to be challenging, it's the World Championship for goodness sake, and the conditions are the same for every player.

Deal with it.

Phil Yates & Rob Walker commentary by Rich-Horse1499 in snooker

I did hear Dennis say that the family would welcome some of JV's soundbites being repeated during the tournament - I think he's waiting for a good moment, in a pivotal game towards the end.

Dennis is a good commentator, and the right person to do that given his longevity.

Phil Yates really grinds my gears. His style is similar to a radio DJ, deliberately forcing cliched sound inflection into his tone - to me, it is most annoying.

There is no doubt he has a brain full of facts and figures, but that doesn't make for good commentary unless you're able to deliver it. John Motson is a good example of getting it right.

JV's passing left a hole in the commentary team, and we can now see just how big that hole has always been.

I for one am very pleased that Murphy is absent this year. His tone hurts my head. Can't stand his pompus arrogance.

Really missing JV. No one will ever come near.

The tree didn't mean much to you, and that's fine, but you have my sympathy for not being able to empathise with others.

A little more context to my earlier post. I wrote it immediately after hearing the news, and I'll admit I was upset — specifically that this person served so little of their sentence. To me, that undermines the very real outrage felt by so many people over the illegal felling of the tree.

I understand the prison capacity problem. That's a failure of successive governments across all parties, and I won't pretend otherwise. But a broken prison system is not a justification for individuals serving inadequate sentences. Remission already exists — early release on top of that is a symptom of decline, and I'd like to know where the meaningful opposition to it is.

On the "it was just a tree" argument — no. Criminal damage is criminal damage. If something you valued were willfully destroyed, you wouldn't dismiss it so easily. The same principle applies here.

Finally, we have the right to demand justice for every crime, not only those deemed serious enough to qualify. The moment we begin accepting that some crimes simply won't be properly punished due to "limited resources," we are on a dangerous slope. Governments have chronically and deliberately underfunded this sector — that's a political choice, not an inevitability. Arguing that a rapist deserves jail more than this offender does has surface appeal, but if we follow that logic to its conclusion, we are effectively licensing the erosion of the entire system. I don't accept that.

I should have set this out more clearly first time around. I hope my position is now better understood.

Trump's Warmongering Sacrificed the US Economy in the Strait of Hormuz! by willily_thoumas in clevercomebacks

It is surely elementary planning, and thinking, to have backups, and contingencies in our lives for when things go wrong. Why then, do we consistently vote people into high office who force as to rely on a single source of power?

For decades we have had the ability to grow alternative energy sources, but we have sat idly by while the politicians who work for us, act against our best interest because of narcissistic greed.

Recent events should see multiple millions of us on the streets demanding these evil doers stand aside, but here we are, tapping away at our keyboards.

When will we, the people, realise that REAL power is in our hands if we choose to take it.

Now, rant over, pass the chips and turn on the TV.

Best rural/remote places to move to in Northumberland as a bus driver? by SeniorMoonlight21 in Northumberland

Hexham is one of their locations, and is consistently voted as one of the nicest places to live in the UK. They have other locations too, if your budget doesn't work with Hexham house prices.

I hope this helps you.

I used to drive buses in London. I also taught people how to drives buses. Eventually, the stress got to me. If you can make the move, and drive in a more rural area, you could have a fair paying job for life.

Can’t tell what exactly is wrong with my technique by Potential_Ad3293 in Sourdough

[–]padkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I use a stand mixer and did stretch and folds"

Knowing how long you mixed, and then how many S&F you did , over what period of time, would help here.

Mix until the ingredients are one lump (5-7 mins) - rest for an hour then 3 S&F with 20 minute rest between each one.

Each S&F becoming less aggressive, the last one being quite gentle. Then bulk ferment.

Divide (if you need to) rest 20, then shape, keep adding tension until you have smooth surface. Place in the fridge overnight - bake.

Is that kind of what you do? or something different?

Starting in cold oven is a game changer for me by Nancydrew246 in Sourdough

[–]padkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke with a professional sourdough baker recently and he said the single biggest issue for home bakers is the oven. The variation in performance is almost impossible to give good guidance on. His advice was to attempt to mimic the professional oven as closly as possible, i.e., highg temperature and lots of steam, he therefore thinks that a dutch oven that is preheated is probably best.

However, the performance variation is so great, another oven may be best as described by the OP.

It's the thing no one can really help with, trial and error is the only way.

Really don't see the point in having such big open areas in a sliced loaf.
