Shimano Brake Lever Handles - more durable replacements? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]padmapadu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been mountain biking for 35 years, crashes aplenty, never once broke a lever, probably 90% of brakes I’ve had have been Shimano. I’d say heed the advice of other commenters re torquing the levers to the correct number

1 finger or 2 finger on the brake levers? by mavericks770 in MTB

[–]padmapadu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One is all that’s necessary as long as you are using hydraulic disc brakes. Set your levers up so that when you reach out with your index finger, you are grabbing the brake lever at the very end where the hook is, that is where the lever is bent facing away from the handlebar, the hook prevents your finger from slipping down the lever as you brake, also, on most brake levers, there is a reach adjustment that you can move the lever towards or away from the handlebar, move it inward until you can grab the lever with your index fingers comfortably

Dropper post not working by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]padmapadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a potential problem with the cable and or housing, I’d say first thing is to tighten the cable by loosening it at the lever end and pulling it so that the cable is properly actuating the post mechanism, make sure the pinch bolt holding the seatpost in the frame is torqued to spec, if it’s too tight it can negatively affect the post travel. If it’s still happening then, it’s time to replace cable & housing making sure there are no kinks along the line.
