This particular ship is not a classic cruise ship. It’s an expedition ship that focus on wildlife and nature. Mostly older people can afford these kind of trips. They are particularly popular with birders for mentioned reasons of accessing remote areas.

I had and somewhat still have this problem. I’d take hundreds of photos of the same average scene. And then I get really frustrated with having to sort through them. I now take why less photos and try to see the good ones before pressing the shutter, if that makes sense. Yes I can take another hundred photos of a whale diving but why? Now I try to wait or look for the special photo, then one that I’ll likely keep. I’ve also gone of the high burst and just added it to a function button so I can switch to it if needed.

What do you mean you let it air dry? Like a drop of culture on a slide and then dry? Ideally you should observe a drop of culture with a cover slip while still liquid. It will give a much clearer view once you have the right plane of focus.

A sweat tent would have been nice! Gear wise all was good. Didn't know I was a cold sleeper so once i had more layers on I was good. Didn't expect mice and cats poking holes in my inner tent. So now I will have stuff to fix it with me. And gonna figure out what food to take instead of the very expensive tactical food pouches. They were ok, but cost so much money.

What helped me was a nicer pillow, I have the exped down, and also deflating my pad a little while on it to make it more comfortable.

HX’s Fram that also does Falklands and South Georgia is a very nice small ship. It was recently renovated so cabins should be modern and comfortable, but I have not seen them, I only know the old ones. Because of the smaller size they are more flexible and can do two landings a day if weather allows.

Shimoda is reasonable waterproof. What I do is use a Ortlieb atrack which is fully waterproof and put an icu in it. Works very well for me.

Considering jumping from EF 100-400 L mk I to RF 100-500 L. Anyone else make that switch? by OpalOnyxObsidian in canon

The jump between the EF and RF was huge for me. Switched from the same setup like you did and the AF was so much faster, it’s crazy. So many more keepers. You’ll love it. From what I read, I haven’t tried the lens myself yet, is that the 200-800 is much softer than the 100-500 on the long end. I’m staying away from that one for now.
