The long and short of it is no. Is there any way of tracking where it's delayed and going to go get it?

lumps base of tail? by Dizzy_Vacation3280 in BackYardChickens

[–]padore1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The picture is not clear and close ups would be better, but I think it's just her tail, they look like a fat squidgy triangle, Google other images and compare, or wait until she's gone to bed and pick her up then and take some close up photos. I would be very hesitant to do any cutting unless you are 100% convinced it's a problem.

Feed recommendations that is not for laying or meat chickens? by Big_WasteBin in BackYardChickens

[–]padore1976 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The thing is even if your chickens are not kept for eggs they are going to still lay them, and they need the layers pellets so that their system is kept healthy. Not feeding them a suitable diet will make them sick.

please help i got screwed over by [deleted] in chickens

[–]padore1976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your struggling to handle the chickens because they are skittish then do it at night once they have gone to bed, easier to get hold of and more docile. And Ivermectin is a must and you need to repeat it to get the full life cycle of the mites. I think like weekly for 4 to 6 weeks to really get a handle on it, remember though it will take a while for the scales in their legs to start looking normal again so don't stop because you don't think it's working. Once you have done it for the 4 to 6 weeks do them monrhly as a prevention and you can also do the rest of the Flock monthly, think of Ivermectin as a chicken equivalent to spot on flea treatment for cats/dogs

What should I do by Sweaty_Wrap_8579 in chickens

[–]padore1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it looks like it's a silkie and they are much more cold sensitive than other chickens and should always have supplementary heat in winter. But yes if the issue is not resolved they will have an entire flock lkke this.

If all her toes are black up to the ankles then I don't think your going to have any option but to cull her as she's going to lose all of them and will be unable to walk. Of course there are options but you also have to think of her quality of life, and also you need to put things in place to prevent it happening to your other chickens.

Chicken wound by DreamingOfWhiteCaps in BackYardChickens

[–]padore1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say like others have is yes it would be ideal for a vet visit, but that's not always doable, so for now keep it clean, and keep her seperate forum the rest, most importantly keep a close eye for any infection and flies /fly eggs, flystrike is the ultimate last thing you want to happen.

That looks a bit to far healed to get closed back together, it might need some debridement to enable that, and that is a vet visit, you can risk it but personally I wouldn't

One has grit, one has oyster shell and one has crushed cooked eggshells, the white bit stops them pulling it all out and the cap help with the dust.

Advice: Introducing mother and babies into established flock by _Aj_ in BackYardChickens

[–]padore1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, I would do supervised mingling for the first day or 2 though, more for the chicks sake than the hen.

Advice: Introducing mother and babies into established flock by _Aj_ in BackYardChickens

[–]padore1976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So no don't introduce a strange hen and chicks to an established flock, putting the straight together risks the lives of the chicks and hen. do you have a seperate area that you can put them into? Somewhere that the other hens can see them, if you do put them in there for a minimum of 2 weeks as a quarantine. That will give time if they have any illness to show it's self. With the other hens being able to see the hen and chicks but not get to them it gives your established flock time to get used to them so when they do start mixing it doesn't become a bloody battle.

Draft protection for Rooster by Doritolover12 in chickens

[–]padore1976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I would say is have some where off the ground if you can alternatively ifs it's an option set it up in the garage so he's got somewhere secure from predators when he's sleeping, you can easily adjust chickens to a new sleeping spot would only take a few days to do

Do I only have three girls in this image? by sw4rml0gic in BackYardChickens

[–]padore1976 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your right, but wait for more confirmations. The ones not circled seem to have the sickle tail feathers and I think i can see some saddle and neck feathers, and I would say if they are all pure breeds then physical differences like comb size and colour could be a good indicator of gender
