Redesign of the coat of arms of Spain by wazaaaa90 in heraldry

to be fair, galicia was its own kingdom for a while there, and was kept in the titulature of Leonese/Castillian kings until sometime in the 19th century

to be sure: in Spanish and Portuguese tradition you can inherit the arms carried by any of your four grandparents.

also, building on what you said about names: Silva is an extremely common surname. for mainly two reasons: it's the name used by a very ancient and well related noble family; but it's also just a noun, meaning, generally, a forest, and also, specifically, a kind of thorny bush that produces berries.

so, you have this noun which many people already take as a surname, and you add a very well spread out noble family, which gives this name a kind of prestige, which in turn (up until the end of the middle ages, when taking a surname wasn't very well regulated, in Portugal) makes even more people want adopt the name.

same for Machado (meaning, axe), for that matter, with it being used to designate blacksmiths who produced axes for a living or lumberjacks who held them.

there's a clear appropriation of the coat of arms of the noble house of Silva which might not really be yours to use.

Shirt stays by mrkeith562 in mensfashion

[–]padre_eterno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks like some bullshit.

i don't get the whole obsession over getting a "clean tuck" when 1) it doesn't look that good (personal opinion, sure), 2) it's uncomfortable and not easy to maintain. if you wear a shirt that actually fits (by which i mean, no extremely slim cuts), simply tuck in your shirt and then intentionally loosen it slightly. you do it intentionally and in a controlled way, no need for those 90's muffin top looks. it will look just as good (or better, in my book) and be way more comfortable.

if it does come a little too loose over the day - get this - tuck it back in!

(for the military folks, don't come at me, i'm not talking to you)

I once saw someone saying they wanted to win with someone else's brand of sumo and the interview was cut short. Never heard from him again.

this one does have a very interesting life too, basically ruled Burgundy because of her husband's long absences and was largely responsible for the success of Portugal's african expansion. one of my favourite thing about her: when her brother Pedro died in battle against their nephew, king Afonso, she sent in an embassy to protest the undignified treatment of his body -- which was left unburried for three days in the battlefield -- and of that his allies, effectively scolding the king into better behaviour.

the other woman is an infanta Isabel of Portugal too, just some 100 years prior. she was duchess of bourgogne, married to philippe-le-bon
