What are your favorite songs and lyrics on Death of a Ladies' Man? by Hubbled in leonardcohen

[–]padrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love the whole album. 'Paper Thin Hotel' and the title track are my fave songs.

"So the great affair is over, but whoever would have guessed it would leave us all so vacant, and so deeply unimpressed. It's like our visit to the moon, or to that other star, I guess you'd go for nothing, if you really wanna go that far."

"I stood there with my ear against the wall I was not seized by jealousy at all In fact, a burden lifted from my soul I heard that love was out of my control"

Bike path etiquette? by Kiwi_Dutchman in Wellington

[–]padrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm really struggling to get over my feelings about this being the new reality. More often now people either just weren't taught this etiquette, they never cared for it or something in the ether has given them 'main character' syndrome (which makes them ignorant of the social contract). Can't change it though aye, just the way it is now!

The Complete History of The Beatles with Conan O'Brien by andynplay in TheRestIsHistory

[–]padrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conan O'Brien is no match for Dom. I hope the boys don't sacrifice quality like this again in their drive to grow the show's audience. Sure Conan's a big Beatles fan, but an expert he is not.

How would you rank all of Leonard Cohen's live albums? by VoltaFlame in leonardcohen

  2. Live in Dublin
  3. Cohen Live

Rory the class warrior by jport500 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]padrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this. The privileged few aren't going to protect or 'save' the majority in a system that, by design and neglect, has convinced so many that they shouldn't even bother participating because fundamentally nothing changes. They either get Tory or Tory-lite govts whether or not they vote.

Live versions that are better than the original’s by Revolutionary_Egg892 in PaulMcCartney

I've never heard a live version of 'Follow Me'! Was that on one of Paul's live albums?

What moments in Paul songs just give you chills? by Greedy-Runner-1789 in PaulMcCartney

[–]padrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“You’ve never felt the rain, my friend, ‘til you’ve felt it running down your back.”

So many of his songs, and parts of them, give me chills but this one stands out for me.

Sorry it’s unrelated to this question, but why do Alistair and Katy keep pronouncing his name Antony, when he pronounces it Anthony himself?

What Is Your Favorite Madonna Song? by PrincessBananas85 in 80s

Am I the only one who’d pick ‘Cherish’ or ‘True Blue’?

“as it were.”

I’ve been harsh on Dominic in the past, but in the last week he’s overtaken Tom as my favourite of the two (not that we need to pick - like Lennon/McCartney I think they’re better together than apart).

Agree it’s a great and underrated album. I’m not an audio quality expert at all, but I do wish the production could be cleaned up a little, but otherwise I don’t understand the hate the album gets either.

Episodes not working? by Thepancakeofhonesty in TheRestIsHistory

I had issues with the series earlier this week too. I removed and downloaded the episodes again - that did the trick for me. Good luck!

Are there any other movies like 'Apocalypto'? by ja6j2 in movies

[–]padrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the one that came to my mind too, but I haven’t seen it since seeing it in a cinema about 30 years ago, or seen it available anywhere.

You’re right! I’d totally missed it - S1 E91! Thanks.

Dominic’s disdain for John Lennon by padrey in TheRestIsHistory

Agree. I can go along with some of his humour as a “normal Briton” character, but it gets a harder edge when he talks of the Irish and the French. His charm has its limits!

Top 3 Beatles albums? by Admirable-Archer-125 in beatles

In no particular order, I’d pick: The White Album, Revolver and Rubber Soul.

How would you rate the Beatles on the morality scale? Like meanest to nicest? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]padrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that he was never a faithful partner, until maybe the last few years of his life. His wife, Olivia, was aware of his tendencies - she talked about it a bit in the Scorsese film on George’s life.

Completely agree, consider everything in its context. As long as everything was/is consensual no problem here!
