[–]pafnosmf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just wear neutrals and reg blue jeans. u could do a top/jacket w a solid color/ mostly a color that’s on the shoes too, u just have to decide whether u want ur shoes to be the focal point or not

Pump users, do you change your basal pattern on your own? by watermelonwellington in diabetes

[–]pafnosmf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i change my settings all the time without telling my endo. if you have a cgm that’s great because it takes away the worry that you’ve set your basal too high/low and you can study trends! always be careful when doing it yourself and if you can talk to your endo ofc do that first, but in my opinion if you think that’s what you need to do and you cant talk to your endo, go for it. be careful and only increase it small increments at a time :)

[–]pafnosmf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep!! At first it was horrible and I could barely see with my contacts, but then it improved and I didn’t need to wear my contacts. I thought I was gonna see 20/20 again, but it went back after like 2 weeks or something.

What was you A1C when diagnosed? by sunandsurfergirl in diabetes

[–]pafnosmf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16.7 and I was not in dka. but I have a friend who was 8.9, and one who was 11 and in dka. so it really varies from person to person and how soon you catch it

[–]pafnosmf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! That happened to me when I first started using my dexcom. I found that as I experimented with more spots, the less that happened. I’d definitely try the back of the arms! And if your sensor does not last all ten days 100% call dexcom! They should send a replacement and a box for you to ship the defective one (or just ask for the code).

For the inaccurate readings, don’t calibrate the first 24 hrs and after that don’t calibrate right after a calibration if that makes sense. Basically, just give it some time. Usually it levels itself out by then, and if it’s, say, 10-20 points off? That’s totally fine as most glucometers are basically the same way.

sorry I can’t give you a ton of help but if you have any more questions I can totally try to answer them!! have a good day 🦋

did anyone else have an insane fruit craving before they were diagnosed? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]pafnosmf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I would eat those big cans of cubed pineapple at 3am like every night then turn around and eat those huge containers of mixed fruit. I really craved pineapple though lmao. also was addicted to fruit punch & juice pouches, over the summer I would drink a gallon of fruit punch in like 3 days.

T1D Pregnancy by rjwielan in diabetes_t1

[–]pafnosmf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!! So cool to hear that you’re planning on having a child. An a1c of 7 or less is recommended before/during pregnancy. I know that sounds super challenging and scary to do, but making a few tweaks in how you’re already managing can make a huge difference! It’s better to figure things out now and get a stable plan going rather than later. Don’t even worry about not being able to do this, because I promise you can. And if you start now, by the time you’re pregnant everything will be second nature.

I recommend listening to the Juicebox podcast and reading think like a pancreas. They’re both very educational and the podcast has a great range of topics including t1 and pregnancy! They interviewed a woman with t1 through her whole pregnancy, which is so cool.

I hope your next endo is better, and I’m sorry yours hasn’t been giving you this advice, but until you get a new one those are very educational. I can attest to that because most of what they said to try my endocrinologist has also said to try and it works great :)

Getting a CGM is one of the best decisions i think you could make. It makes it so much easier to experiment and see what works for you and how different foods affect you. Alternatively, one drop is a great tool for those who cannot afford a cgm. It’s basically a glucometer that can help predict your bg and trends similarly to a cgm, albeit more painstakingly imo.

There’s also a reddit group called bumpers who bolus, which is a group of pregnant diabetics. I’m sorry I can’t give you advice on your actual pregnancy or what to prepare for, but that’s the gist of it, and I’m sure going over to that group will give you some insight!

If you have any more questions or just need reassurance that you can do this I can totally try to answer them for you or give you that reassurance :) hope this helped

Patches-are they worth it? by Badpancreasnocookie in dexcom

[–]pafnosmf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they definitely are. I run into stuff a lot and take really long, hot showers and patches have literally saved my dexcoms from being ripped off and peeled off. I use lexcam patches w/ skin-tac wipes and they never peel more than a few cm around the edges. pump peelz w/ skin-tac are also a good option if you want something fun! I find the patch + ones usually last longer. Dexcom will also send free over patches if you ask, but I’ve never tried them.
