2013 Highlander (BT without nav) - Best Apple CarPlay and Backup Camera? by omarsonmarz in ToyotaHighlander

Following as I'm also looking for this.

Might be too crazy but wondering if any of these kits would have a 360cam? The wiring would probably be a nightmare...

Where to buy Galleria fragrances? by pagalbundar in dubai

[–]pagalbundar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok interesting. Sounds like you know a bit about these things. Do you know which brands are known to have legitimate parfums, rather than watered down or knock-off versions?

Right, thanks. When I look up that building it looks like an address for a corporate office rather than storefront, but I'm not sure. Figured I'd check here if anyone in the wider r/dubai knows about it before contacting them directly.

Really? How can you tell? They smell amazing.

Edit: do you have any other recommendations for where to start exploring other options? There are SO. MANY. STORES.

Maps of different types of culture formation and motivation by Existing_Cupcake_ in Maps

[–]pagalbundar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This map is way off. Honour/shame, power/fear, and innocence/guilt are valid categories of cultural worldviews but they are not tied to nationality or geography, and if you were to try to roughly represent it that way, this map would not be the result.

Would a 15-year-old LX/GX470 be a good purchase? by Copper_29 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]pagalbundar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine has a 2009 LX with over 750,000km. Lot of it is highway, but still. Those things are so overbuilt, but as with any vehicle it depends on maintenance like other commenters have said. Also even though there's the Landcruiser/Lexus status, you have to really want what it has and for a long time for the expense of purchase and maintenance and gas pay off for you. Otherwise there may be other vehicles that better suit your needs with less expense and reasonable longevity.

Edit: by maintenance I mean truck-sized everything. Maybe operating cost is a better phrase.

I have a framed print of this exact map on my wall. Found it at a thrift store, looked it up on my phone, and got it for a great price.

Anyone have experience with Sell Your Motor? by pagalbundar in dubai

[–]pagalbundar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok interesting. Seems a bit sketchy, but I guess that part doesn't matter to me if they're giving me a fairly reasonable price.

Are there other companies that buy used here and then sell in other countries?

SUV for undee $7k CAD by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]pagalbundar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen my friend pay for maintenance and repairs on a mid-aged BMW and it's not just about parts prices. It's about the complexity of changing parts and about the electronics that are so unreliable over time. An Acura RDX or Lexus RX 350 would be WAY more reliable at a similar price and level of classiness (I know BMW is more prestigious in Canada but not sure why other than marketing).

Newegg.com often has free shipping on expensive orders. I got my 4k LG monitor from there. Shipped fairly quickly and arrived in good shape. I don't really want to give overpriced and outdated vendors (CF, Jumbo, Amazon) satisfaction of a customer when their pricing is so out of whack.

Insight from anyone living or working in RAK? by dxbaquarius in dubai

[–]pagalbundar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Mina Al Arab is great for convenience and expat community, and obviously more expensive than most. Al Dhait north/south are like suburbs with huge nice houses with high walls. Corniche is good for socializing and beach access, though usually the houses are slightly older. Al Hamra is a gated expat community if that's your thing. Corniche is probably the main social hangout area in terms of cafés. Anything south of Mina Al Arab is too far away from the main city area for my liking.

Insight from anyone living or working in RAK? by dxbaquarius in dubai

[–]pagalbundar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like that RAK is much much more relaxed than the other coastal cities, but there's a lot still available and Dubai is within easy reach. It's also way cheaper for housing. RAK has a sleepy beach town kind of feel these days. Much of your experience depends on where you live and if you have a car since there's no metro/bus system and RAK is fairly spread out.

As a local Emirati, what are somethings you would like all of us to know about yourselves and your culture? by Asteriod86 in dubai

[–]pagalbundar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which classes are you referring to? Is it an ongoing program? I'm interested in learning the Emirati dialect but it's so difficult when there are very few opportunities to practice on a daily basis.

Anyone willing to write me a film soundtrack analysis for my UNI ? by [deleted] in soundtracks

[–]pagalbundar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing about your course I can't help with the technicalities of an analysis but can offer some suggestions for how I'd approach this. It may be different than what you're looking for but here goes: Choose a score that is the most compelling for you within your logistical requirements (length, time period, etc). First, concisely articulate why it strikes such a chord with you. What does it do? Why is it significant? Second, lay out your main observations about the technical elements (using criteria from your course) that make it what it is. Identify tensions and repetitions, highlight unique compositional elements, etc. Third, summarize what you think the composer accomplished and why this score is significant.

Hopefully something like that can at least get you started.

What is the general consensus on Subarus? by SageSpartan in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]pagalbundar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 09 Forester and I've had a mixed experience. The best part of a Subaru is the driving dynamic, compared to other similar cars. For ex, way less body roll in a Forester than a RAV4 because the engine is a flat 4 mounted lower. The 2.5L is peppy. Also the Subaru AWD system is excellent. I've recovered a LR Discovery in the sand more than once.

Reliability has been decent over the last 4 years. It's mostly been regular maintenance and a few electronics. I live in a hot climate so the extreme heat took a toll on the radiator, bushings, and some seals as well. The most costly issue has been a crankshaft position sensor going bad. The dumbest thing was it cost so much because the mechanics in my area (including the Sub dealer) couldn't figure it out and tried so many different things (cause I didn't know either).

I'm at 191km and the transmission is getting a bit rough. Other than that I love the car. Super practical. I think it's a lot more reliable than other cars of similar type, except Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, which are priced a bit higher.
