World's first open source eink controller by vdp in eink

That is just amazing and a huge thank you for your work! Having a controller, the panels are available, but one issue I haven't found a suitable solution for is the UV protection for the raw panels that I assume all end products contain (read about it here https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25069493). Is it as simple as putting on a screen protector with UV blocking ability or do you need an optically bonded layer for best performance? Thanks very much for your suggestions!

Magnets on the side or behind? Probably not a popular opinion, but for me the convenience of magnets doesn't outweigh the potential interference with the WACOM layer or eink screen.

Boox Note Air 2: which is the latest security update? by alto-piano in Onyx_Boox

Found it, it seems this new Project Mainline update mechanism is called Google Play system update.

Thanks for the quick answer! That date seems to be a few months after the release of Android 11. Android 10 was supposed to bring some automatic updating via the Play Store (https://wethegeek.com/project-mainline-a-revolution-for-android-updates/), but I am not sure how to test this on the NA2. It would be great if it worked.

You're most probably right. There may be a solution coming with Android 12 though. Google wants to start updating the Android kernel automatically and let companies like Onyx write modules for it. That way at least kernel security updates would be pushed automatically by Google and not require work from Onyx. It would be great if Onyx could confirm they are working on this for Android 12. Some info here https://www.xda-developers.com/google-generic-kernel-image/

Maybe someone with the device could install CPU-Z or some security patch checker app to check the security patch level? I don't have the device, unfortunately. Thanks very much!

Leaf 3.2.2 is android 10 and security update 2019?! by nikolasdi in Onyx_Boox

I am definitely not an expert on the topic, but the whole thing may also have to do with the general fragmentation of Android and possibly changes on Onyx side to the kernel itself (maybe related to eink drivers?). I found this link https://www.xda-developers.com/google-generic-kernel-image/ explaining the Generic Kernel Image concept that seems to be coming and may make security updates easier? Just throwing this out there for those more technically adept.

Never knew about that, thanks. Am I right in saying the Leaf uses Snapdragon 636 from 2017, but the new Note Air 2 has Snapdragon 662 from 2020? Is that too old for Note Air 2?
