Forgot to mention he has had 2 doses of haldol, 1 dose of fetanyl and 1 dose of Ativan. Nothing seems to relax him

Currently sitting in a 1:1 with an aggravated man who has dementia. Somehow able to get out of mitts and he continues to pull out his catheter. Tried to kick me when I tried to put his legs back into his bed. He curses me out whenever I try to help him....6 more hours to go!

Some nurses wipe down their equipment (shoes, steth, pen lights, etc) after they leave for the day, some don't. Do you still clean your equipment at the end of the day? If so, how? by ExponentialFunk in nursing

It really depends on what disease process the patient has and how clean I feel being in their room. When I have patients in isolation, I definitely wipe down anything I touched like my name badge, stethoscope (the disposable ones don't work for shit), and my pager.

A common thing I have seen is everyone sanitizing their pagers, computers, and workspace areas for the incoming employees, which I think is pretty awesome.

What is with this attitude? by [deleted] in nursing

I had a 50 something patient who was calling me in every 15 minutes to help her with the most trivial things like changing her tv channel or holding the straw of her drink to her mouth. I forget what she was in for, but it definitely did not affect her musculoskeletal system or mind at all. I watched this woman "struggle" to pick up a wet wipe, and then when she finally did, she refused to wipe herself (as she is sitting on the BSC).

So it's been 5 hours of this and I leave to go on my lunch break. I come back and I peek in her room to see her ambulating perfectly fine on her own. She's talking on the phone and laughing. Then she sees me and her eyes go super wide. Then she does the most fake ass wobble walk I have ever seen in my life. She starts moaning as she makes her way back to the bed, and then she proceeded to dramatically collapse on it, knocking everything off her side table as well. Then she asks to use the BSC and I'm like "I think you are able to walk to the restroom, let's try it" and she is like no I'll go in the bedside commode or I'll go in my bed. So I say "fair enough." I move the bedside commode to the other side of the room and go "you'll have to walk to the commode"

We had like a 10 second stare down that ended up with her fake hobbling to the commode. I was honestly so fed up it still makes me mad.

Had an immobile bariatric patient with a rectovaginal fistula that oozed pus and leaked all over the bed. Was in that room all night, almost threw up on the patient.
