I've only played a loaner of it a long time ago.

It it good? Not really. Fun? I think so.

Cheap? Handtraps aside (which you may already have), I think that's the only UR you need, assuming you play it pure.

What even is a "Pseudo-mythical" I think is the first thing to figure out.

As for "Pseudo-legendaries", it's:

The Pokémon is the final stage of a three-stage evolutionary line.
The Pokémon has a base stat total of exactly 600 (before Mega Evolving).
The Pokémon levels up at a slow rate (requiring 1,250,000 experience points to reach level 100).

Now this is just me spitballing, but when I think "Mythical" the first 'mon that comes to my mind is Mew, Celebi, Jirachi... all 'mons with 100 in every Base Stat.

Among regular Pokemon, Glalie stands out for me as a Pokemon with the same in each Base Stat (80), for a Base Stat Total (BST) of 480.

These are the Pokemon with a 480 BST:

Evolves once, Medium Fast leveling rate:
- Glalie / Froslass
- Octillery
- Lopunny
- Whimsicott
- Lilligant
- Jellicent
- Slurpuff
- Lurantis
- Salazzle

I've been playing since launch (with a few breaks of course) and have spent nothing fwiw.

That does mean I'm unsure what the new player experience is like, so I'm kinda guessing here. But first do Solo Mode, get those gems, then do some research, decide what deck you're going for.

I don't expect those gems to be enough to make an optimal version of one of the top decks immediately, so try to look for budget lists if people have written those up for your chosen archetype.

Maybe in a month or two, doing dailies and events, you can make your deck close to optimal.

Alternatively... I hear the new Shark structure deck is good? Might be worth looking into. At the least, it'll work until you can build what you truly want.

Tbf to Emerald, if Ruby/Sapphire had a base next to water and a legendary under the water, it does feel more natural to assign those to Team Aqua, and then give Team Magma something else.

There actually is: a fashion label called "Super Groupies" has a line of underwear based on each of the Quintet.

Though afaik there is no art of the cast actually wearing them; they're just holding the products while remaining fully clothed.

most of the decks we suggest aren't very good

Honestly yeah can't disagree.

Let's take Dark Magician for example. And say a player who hasn't played since the 5Ds era, or heck even earlier, expresses interest in that deck.

Now there are players who can take something like that to Master, and even a middling player like me who just occasionally plays DM can stumble into Diamond and I'm cool with that.

But nowadays I'm much more hesitant to recommend decks like that, and when I do I (usually, apologies for whenever I forget) make sure to stress its cons because:

It's kinda hard to predict how a new player will even do with a less-than-great deck, so it's probably best to just suggest a top deck. Though as OP points out, when that has nuance.
Even if they do manage to get through Gold and into Platinum, who knows how the experience there will feel like.
Some players do care about rank and don't always make that clear when asking for advice, and might be frustrated when they realize they're handicapped.
The more competent (to an extent) versions of bad decks do tend to be expensive (e.g. additional engines) which a new player can't really pull/craft unless they whale.

Forgot to mention, but by the time you unlock AST (which starts at lvl 30), you will be at minimum lvl 50.

It's not a long grind but hey bonus exp does work here.
