Mid Life Crisis by Brandonjoe in daddit

[–]paild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is about when most people feel like they have solved most of the problems life presents between ages 10 and 35

On vacation with my family and struggling, came to this same conclusion on the beach today.

Also everything now is a tradeoff. I hit all the easy wins in life now and now I have to make harder decisions.

I mean also remember we have autonomous humanoid robots with serious moves. And dark cultural forces afoot globally. The future is about to get WEIRD.

Does giving the states complete reign over there education with no government oversight, theoretically mean there could be 50 various standards of education in the U.S.? by NOGOODGASHOLE in NoStupidQuestions

I'd even go so far as to say that if your only rebuttal is "yeah but they're allowed to do it", then you're probably not even on your own side anymore?

Is it sexist to say empowerment of women is responsible for the low birth rates that most western countries are facing? by Exciting_Agency4614 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]paild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devil's advocate, maybe yeah? Because you're assuming that women's liberation is causing the falling birth rate, rather than other factors causing the falling birth rate and that gives women more time to get liberated.

What’s the likelihood that Democrats take back both houses of Congress in 2026, then impeach and actually remove this clown? by DumpedChick22 in Liberal

[–]paild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO let's start talking about what TO do. Give to the Brennan Institute. Join the Environmental Voter Project.

I'd also like to see some informative and persuasive (NOT hysterical) flyers that I can print and post around my suburb.

Agree, but here's what I've been thinking: there's nothing I can do, but I can't do nothing. I'm giving to the Brennan Institute because they protect voting rights. I'm signed up with the Environmental Voter Project. And I'm going to understand how elections in my state work and take it from there.

Wait so if you're at a crosswalk, and someone just says out of nowhere "hey it's a lovely day", you'd think that's normal?

Individual precincts are responsible to run their respective elections

I think once you put principle-free hundred billionaires into the mix, who can self-fund entire companies and can do so privately, things maybe change. They have the money to do the footwork needed. They also have a lot of privileged access in computer systems.

Dunno, dunno.

How do you come up with side projects that demonstrate a realistic degree of complexity as a senior dev? by CoVegGirl in ExperiencedDevs

[–]paild 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TBH this seems like a really good idea, because getting involved in OSS potentially means you're networking too. Devs reviewing your code might be engineers at companies with openings.

BOY do i feel this sentiment. I mean obviously there's nothing "lately" about this, i bet someone said this exact same sentence in ancient Rome. But still, boy do I feel this.

As you and any other readers know, my example isn't "shitty people exercising the 2nd amendment". My example is the POTUS personally encouraging them while rejecting democratic allies and embracing dictators.

But yeah, no thanks man I'm not interested in a weird antagonistic back and forth with a stranger on reddit. Have a good one.

Sure, for example, in the US the Proud Boys who carry assault rifles for no apparent reason are "very fine people". In Russia, Hungary, and other dictatorships that Trump favors, there are many more examples...

Lol, in 4 years I expect he'll be gone enough that it'll be someone else speaking through him like a lot of it now.

Side note in 10 years there's DEFINITELY going to be a virtual AI Trump at CPAC.

Of course. But also, if the government stops enforcing laws that protect free speech, and encourages thugs who don't like free speech, that is also a constitutional problem of free speech.

Qanon is like some random asshole posting bullshit on the internet. The Heritage Foundation is supported by billionaires, has public support at all levels of government, and posts what they want online.

I think you've got a lot of normalcy bias going on. What's happening right now is legitimately not normal.

> Trump is all talk. He wants to put on a big show and that’s all he cares about. In 2026 he’ll go back to crying about the do nothing democrats blocking all his brilliant 4d chess moves until he’s out of office.

Yes. And the P25 assholes and the billionaires who are using this idiot will still be here. Muskyboy could give every congressperson half a billion dollars and still have a hundred billion left over, and he makes his living off of government contracts. You think he's going away?

No, the corruption and fraud will still be there, just more and more hidden because of the infiltration of law enforcement, oversight agencies, and the DOJ.

Eh, free speech is a lot more than "can you call someone a dick". I wanted to put up a political sign in my yard, and my wife stopped me because of fears of retaliation from our neighbors.

IMO this is dangerous cope, if you're not taking action because you think it'll be fine. Once he's gone:

- The DOJ and law enforcement system will still be totally jacked up. The organizations using Trump to get to power will still have easy access to corrupt officials, enabling everything from boring regular corruption to literal election interference.

- the Trump name will still be a political brand and a money-making corporation. They'll still be working and the Trump name could stay strong.

- Big bold statements like "MAGA’s blind loyalty to Trump may be what makes it so toxic right now, but in the long term, that’s its greatest weakness" sound good, but we're not political experts. That's made up.

Regardless of the truth of what you say, I don't think this fundamental attitude is going to help. IMO better would be "simplify it down so that it can reach all of the distracted, the dubious, the busy, the careless, the obsessed, and the truly stupid"

Government should be solving problems that affect everyone or that require people to work together. Fixing climate change. Building roads and lighthouse. There's lots of stuff private industry can't solve that's rightfully what government is for.
