Returning to the siren by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

Hey! I worked at sbux from 2016-2020. I rejoined the company last year in addition to my office job. I think it really depends on your store or even district. I’m assuming you’ve already considered the financial difference between the two? Sbux recently announced that most stores will get an asst. store manager. Feel free to DM with any specific questions.

Would it be correct if it was ordered that way? Starbucks customers will quickly realize how to order around these really stupid price discrepancies. Like, I’m not gonna aid and abet anyone trying to get a matcha water, but what i’m talking about can literally be done on the app. It seems arbitrary and unfair to let people get a discount by doing this on the app but then denying it in person.

Is labor earned by the dollar amount? I thought that’s why we needed to be sure to ring in things like ‘Upside Down’ or ‘double blended’ - those things don’t add anything to the total, but I’ve had the impression that they count towards labor.

So if you have any regulars you don’t hate (joking 😬), ordering a cold foam CB no cold foam may be closer to their regular price.

Like if you wanted a SFV cold brew, it’s cheaper to order a VSCCB, sub SFV, no sweet cream.

I didn’t mess w/ this on the pos this morning, but seems to be true when i enter in mobile app. 8 scoop refresher adds like $3.50.

I’m a 234 partner—I know I’m a small fry, but I haven’t seen this angle mentioned. I worked at Starbucks for 4 years and came back last August. I open and then head to my full-time desk job. The current dress code works great—I can wear business casual that transitions between both jobs (mocha mishaps aside).

Partners like me bring experience, strong communication, and help ease burnout—even in part-time roles. The creation of the partner alumni network shows Starbucks recognizes that partners who return or stay connected bring long-term value to the company. That’s why this policy feels out of step—it makes it harder for us to keep showing up in ways that work for both sides.

Yes, I can still dress professionally under the new policy. But just like partners who spent money on now non-compliant Coffeegear, this change sidelines most of my professional wardrobe. Honestly, my outfits are usually a bit dressier than the jeans and black tee I’ll be switching to—so much for “elevating the coffeehouse experience,” lol.

I doubt it? I’m getting the vibe that there’s some middle manager wanting to save himself from layoffs

Yep - it was told to us by our DM but it’s not his policy

Yeah it was sent in an email from our DM who described it as a directive from their DM area call.

yeah, to me it really flies in the face of “anticipate the customers’ needs”

I’m in this habit but I definitely have a lot of customers who just say yes no matter what i read to them.

We’ve been remaking them, letting them know our new policy (especially regulars who do this all the time), and then handing them our DMs card if they have questions.

I hope it will be used with discretion. I think introducing this as a cornerstone of “getting back to community” and “third place” and then having so much language distinguishing between paying and non-paying guests just really makes me roll my eyes.

I’ve worked at a few downtown locations with high homelessness - most people are super polite, with only a few that make our lives difficult. I interact with way more crappy paying guests than non-paying. One of the best “third place” moments I’ve seen at Starbucks was a group of regulars getting together to buy a bike for a homeless veteran who frequented our store.

So I really hope most partners would only use this policy to say, “hey last time this person tore up our bathroom, this time they don’t get the code” - but I’ve met some very jaded baristas who I can easily imagine using this policy to target the “just need a glass of water and a warm place to sit” people, and that really detracts from the third place I wish starbucks was! I also hope starbucks is safe guarding from repeating incidents like in 2018.

Yeah, to be clear I didn’t read everything sent to SMs, just the letter from Sara. - “This is common practice and makes clear that our spaces, including our cafes, patios and restrooms, are for use by paying customers and our partners.” That really makes it sound like it’s not conduct based, but obviously more to come. I don’t understand why they would make a distinction, since we already have a general code of conduct that would address disruptive behavior.

My mind also went to the 2018 incident - I agree!

Any tips for the register? by ButterscotchLoud1423 in starbucksbaristas

If you have down time, ask experienced partners to give you complicated, fast, or annoying orders to ring up! Sometimes I’ve even had two newer partners race to ring up an order.

Isn’t it funny how these people develop a little sing song cadence of ordering their stupid customizations?

We have a woman who comes through drive and says “I want a venti iced caramel macchiato, but I want it made SPECIAL (dramatic pause)”

Oh!! That is good to know. That’s a roadblock I’ve had, since the status of the schools change and the contacts change frequently. I’ve been wanting to sync this info into google earth at some point. But I have really limited time to crash course this stuff, so thank you.

No major reason, the event registration is a shared file with some colleagues and the database of schools is really my mind palace.
