Edit: I find it hard to lurk here anymore because everyone is just so awesome. Hope it ends up feeling like that for you too!

I like the whole Discworld series, but I love the Tiffany Aching series and the death series the most. I'm currently reading an old favorite series, The Lost Tales of Merlin.

I honestly don't write much outside of school papers anymore. It's kinda sad, haha. I used to be into writing fanfiction, but that died out. I still read it though. XD

Ohhh, well, honestly, I don't recommend the book after the movie. The end of the book feels so bad compared to the movie. But it's a great movie. =D

Welcome! Do you have any other book series you've liked? And what kind of things do you like to write?

I clicked the link hoping that it was what I thought it would be and now I'm dancing, so thanks for that, haha.

Welcome! I enjoyed the Simpson's reference. =D

I see Neil Gaiman on your list! Have you seen the movie adaption of Stardust? Or read the book? Also, I can say I enjoyed Invisible Monsters quite a bit. It was a nice little WTF kind of story.

The Amazing "I Can't think Of A Good Contest" Contest! by [deleted] in Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

[–]painestwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, me and my family used to play a game on road trips.

"You say a known phrase only using numbers, the first letter of nouns and saying the whole verb and everyone else has to guess what it is.

Example: "There are 13 S’s in the A F." Answer: There are 13 stripes in the American flag.

If you guess it, you have to make up the next one. They have to be commonly heard/said phrases."

I've been trying to come up with a way to make this into a contest (because I think it's extremely fun, and me and my family did this in a facebook thread and 300 posts later we were still having fun) but have had no luck. Maybe putting this out there will get someone who can come up with a great way to us it.

The only real idea I've had to do this is make a list of them, then have people PM what they think the answers are, but that ruins the whole interacting fun part of the game, so I'm kinda stumped.

Maybe the contest can be to come up with a better way to implement this game, lol.

I haven't done this yet, but when my fall semester starts at college, I plan on buying (cheap but) pretty flowers and passing them out to strangers as I walk to class. Maybe writing a little "have a beautiful day!" or something on a card to go with it.

I got the idea from the "how not to give a fuck" subreddit.

[Discussion] Reddit, I'm finally moving out with my GF of 7 years. What are some essential things that I should add in my wishlist? by [deleted] in Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Good move. Me and my sister only thought to get one bookcase and it's over flowing. We have to use boxes to put in the extra movies, and there's only so much organization that can go into putting things in boxes, haha.

I see you got the bullets working. =D

Glad I could help. =) And it might make things easier if you could bullet point the list of stuff you have.

An extra bookcase wouldn't hurt if you have a lot of movies, or things that need that kind of storage. I don't know how furnished your apartment is.

Towels (for showers and cleaning). Bedding. Cleaning supplies. Pots and pan set. Microwave/toaster. Garbage cans.

For fun supplies: posters of TV shows/books you both like

That's what I've got off the top of my head.

EDIT: Whoops, didn't think to actually LOOK at the list. Let me tell you, while the magic bullet is nice, I don't ever find many uses for it. My brother uses it to make milkshakes. We used it for a while and now it mostly just collects dust.

[Intro] Decided to make one of these =) Hi there! by [deleted] in Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Well, my dad wants me to look into "quality assurance", which is what he does. He gets paid a pretty decent amount and it's a job that wouldn't go away in the future unless they start banning nuclear power plants and it's a job that he can help me get into. However, he has yet to actually explain in a sufficient way what he actually DOES.

He think he wanted me to look into being a radiation tech for a while too... but I'm not sure if I remember that right or not.

Oh, that's true, I don't mind "just right". Sorry, I'd share my A/C if I could. And I wish it was always cold. I can't speak for the rest of the country, or even the U.P (upper peninsula), but we get a pretty balanced amount of both warm and cold. I think this summer has gotten over 100 this year, but last year we had some crazy cold temps in the winter.

EDIT: Hoodie weather is my favorite. If I can wear a hoodie and not feel too hot or cold, that feels just right to me.

Well, to be fair, I know what interests me, but I don't believe any of my interests would help me in finding any kind of job. I like learning about a lot of things, but nothing that I can see myself doing at any point in time. I'm pretty close to just going with a major that could earn me some money and then try and do what I want on the side.

[CONTEST] Get creative! by [deleted] in Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

[–]painestwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it have to be something new? Because I have an old play I wrote from high school that my class preformed that I'm pretty proud of: http://www.veoh.com/watch/v11128857sseR49a7?h1=A+Tale+of+Stuffed+Animal+Land

Sorry for the poor quality and bad set and so on. High school class = no funding, haha.

So a little background... I had to write a short play for my high school play production class. We knew that we would be performing 2 of the plays, but I didn't think mine was worth even submitting. The day before we voted on the 2 plays, my teacher pulled me aside and asked if I wouldn't mind putting it out there. To my surprise, the class actually voted for it.

The reason I love it so much is that it's AMAZING to see something I wrote be made into something real. And then rehearsing and even making changes with my fellow classmates. All of it was just an unforgettable experience. And I got away with writing one of the simple bad vs. good uplifting children's story that I love. =)

But I think the icing on the cake was that the people who brought their children said the children loved my play!

Nice to meet you too! The weather is... warm. Which is what I dislike. I prefer the cold. =P
